قلعة دوبيه — Attraction in Hula

Dubé Castle is located at a geographically and militarily important point. In south lebanon, ssawra village. It rises on a hill surrounded by valleys on three sides, and connects to the main road from the south. It is surrounded by rock blocks, some of which were dug in sarcophagi and pots, likely dating back to the Roman-Byzantine period, and in some of them wells were dug used to store winter water. The people call one of them “the Sahij,” which is a large well dug in solid rock, without a roof, to which it is descended through a rocky staircase. تقع قلعة دوبيه في بلدة شقرا. جنوب لبنان، في نقطة مهمة جغرافياً واستراتيجية عسكرياً. فهي ترتفع على تل تحوطه الأودية من ثلاث جهات، وتتصل بالطريق العام من جهة الجنوب. وتحيط بها الكتل الصخرية التي حفرت في بعض منها نواويس وأجراناً يرجّح أنها تعود إلى الفترة الرومانية ــــ البيزنطية، وفي بعضها الآخر حفرت آبار تُستخدم في تخزين مياه الشتاء. ويطلق الأهالي على إحداها تسمية «الصهريج»، وهي بئر كبيرة محفورة في الصخر الأصمّ، من غير سقف، يتم النزول إليها...

We visited it on our way to tyre (sour). A place not to missed if you are in the south, you will notice the fortress and you will be immediately interested in checking it. Situated on a steep and narrow spur running into the great Wady Selukieh, it protected the northern road that led up that valley, and also made a connecting link between Hunin and Tibnin. The fortress/castle is neglected due to land dispute between the two villages, however some kind hands are protecting it by cleaning the land and removing the bushes.
