We visited Afqa Waterfall during our recent trip to Lebanon. This spot has always held a special place in my heart — it’s absolutely beautiful, and I’ve made a point to visit whenever I can. My last visit was five years ago, and sadly, I noticed quite a difference this time.

The natural beauty is still there, but it’s disappointing to see the area so poorly maintained. There was rubbish scattered around, and the area near the so-called restaurants — where I used to be able to go down and take stunning photos — felt neglected.

My daughter and I made the trek down a narrow trail to take some pictures when a man suddenly approached us on a scooter, asking for money. This has never happened in the past, and it made us feel quite uneasy. It was an unfortunate moment that overshadowed what should have been a peaceful visit.

Lebanon has so much to offer in terms of natural beauty, but I really hope the tourism authorities start giving places like Afqa the attention and care they deserve. Visitors should be able to enjoy these wonders without feeling uncomfortable or unsafe. Slightly disappointing overall, but I still hold hope for positive change...

Absolutely stunning location! The road to get there is a little tiresome as you play cat and mouse with the pot holes.. the waterfall itself is amazing the water feels like it’s -10 degrees and if you don’t move about quickly and stay still your body starts getting a little numb but it is manageable especially once the sun hits the location.

We managed to climb into the caves and got to a pretty high location without any ropes or harnesses all free hand and the view from the top was stunning. No pictures on this planet can portray what you see with your own two eyes!

I would definitely recommend this location to be visited, however I would be wearing from local restaurants as they attempted to charge us for going through the property although we had already paid. And also, it’s a shame that no one bothers cleaning this stunning waterfall and that really lets it down. If the restaurants there are so good making you pay as its “their property” I don’t understand why they don’t extend the cleaning to the waterfall after everyone visiting them is only here for that,...

We drove from Baalbek to Byblos and on the way we did a slight detour to Afqa Waterfall. 2-3 minutes before the Afqa waterfall, we reached a spot that was off-road and looked like a dead-end. We turned around thinking that we can’t reach the waterfall as the other route on google-maps looked like it was gonna take us another hour or so. Although we had a Beiruti taxi driver, he wasn’t sure of the route. We asked a few locals when we turned around and they said just go over the off-road for like 1 minute and you would find the waterfall and boy were we glad that we turned around again and went over the off-road. A magnificent waterfall with icy waters. Obviously, you can’t swim in it due to the ice-cold water and rapid currents. The place is pretty cool and there’s a number of places where you can take amazing photos.

TLDR: Great waterfall to visit, as a short detour if you are going to Byblos from Baalbek via...

It's a wonderful place. It's not big like a protected area, so you don't pay a fee to be there. It's juts right next to the road. You can climb a little bit and see the cave over there. The best time to go is right after the winter is gone so still there is plenty of water and the roads are easy and safer. In winter might be a lot of snow and ice. The water is always cold. Over summer the water is not that much but this allows you to cross the river a go deeper in the cave. Also there is a restaurant just across the road.
