Saint Maroun was a 4th-century Christian monk and hermit who is venerated as the founder of the Maronite Church, an Eastern Catholic Church in full communion with the Holy See. His ascetic life and dedication to spiritual practices played a significant role in the spread of monasticism in the region. Maroun lived in the mountainous region of Cyrrhus in modern-day Syria, where he embraced a life of solitude and prayer. His reputation for holiness and his ability to perform miracles drew many followers and disciples. These followers formed the nucleus of what would become the Maronite community. The Monastery of Saint Maroun, named in his honor, became a spiritual and cultural center for the Maronites. It served as a refuge during times of persecution and a hub for theological and scholarly activities. The monastery also played a critical role in preserving the unique liturgical and cultural traditions of the Maronite Church. Throughout its history, the Monastery of Saint Maroun has symbolized the resilience and faith of the Maronite community. The legacy of Saint Maroun continues to be celebrated by Maronites worldwide, particularly on his feast day, February 9.

Trad:[FR.☆] Anaaya* The Monastery of St. Charbel *1200 meters above sea level in the mountains ... 17 km away Byblos.... ⛾ One morning in the year 1851, Youssef left the house and the village and went to the convent of Notre Dame de Mayfouq to become a monk. He spent his first year of novitiate before joining the convent Maron d'Annaya where he joined the Lebanese Maronite Order (O.L.M.) under the name Charbel, martyr of the Antioch Church of the second century. On November 1, 1853, he pronounced his vows at the same convent, fully aware of the implications of these vows: obedience, chastity and poverty.

The absolute place for soul searching and self reflection. The place that is the most holy in Lebanon. A place of worship and prayers most especially the hermitage where saint Charbel lived and died. The place has its own spiritual charm, it is calm and surrounded by nature. It is a place for pilgrimage for all religions but most Christians. Miracles happen every now and then, it is a magical spiritual place for those who believe that it still exists.

A truly beautiful Monastery . It is a peace of heaven on earth and a brilliant church. Actually you have 2 churches, the old one is small and a new big one.The people are warm and inviting. It is a great blend of modern worship and older hymns, as well as in depth preaching and teaching every Sunday. Very special event every 22nd of the month. This really is the crowning jewel of any visit to Lebanon. A must visit. May saint Charbel bless you all.

This monastery is a wonderful place to pray and to give away all the troubles anyone is feeling and living. St Charbel is known for listening and always helping. We are very lucky to have Saint Charbel walk on our ground and bless our country Lebanon.
