Belfort Castle is a must see for everyone visiting the ancient sites of Lebanon and wants to step into the shoes of those knights of old that attempted to rule this almost indefensible terrain. Belfort (or Beaufort) Castle is what remains of the crusaders fort that dominates the sprawling agricultural hill sides of modern day Arnoun. It sits atop a high cliff overlooking the Litani River . Although it was heavily damaged as recent as 2006 by aerial bombardment by Israeli the renovations have been completed recently and it is open to the public.

Don't expect tour guides to flock to you when you arrive. The place is usually empty and quiet on week days. Which makes it an even more serene...

Spectacular so beyond words, I have been visiting Lebanon almost every year since 1983 and just realized this in 2012 and go there every summer when we visit its scale and interior are superb giving it's exterior which was heavily damaged from pass time wars . Its location on a peak of a hill / mountain is remarkable , truly an advantage point that you will feel when you are overlooking the east I believe. Also unknown is a staircase that is inside the castle that leads all the way to the bottom of the mountain that was purposely destroyed during recent Lebanese conflicts. Take a strong flashlight with you so you can look into certain areas that are not...

For me this Castle carries a lot of memories. The Israeli troops were equipping it for many years (for its strategical location) after their invasion but they left in 2000 and bombed t badly afterwards not to let the Lebanese get use of it and of their leftovers. The Kuwaiti renovated it recently and now it is well preserved and maintained . Different levels underground and you can finally climb upwards to the top to see 360 views and you can see somehow /Syria. Calm area not crowded and better in day time. A must visit hidden gem and not...

This historical landmark is a gem in the south of Lebanon. I visited two years ago when it was finished being developed for tourism. Although the place is huge, the signs, maps, and information that were put in place helped a great deal. Since then, the place has been slightly vandalized, with spray painting on stone, signs being drawn on, and maps being completely illegible. The place is incredible but it does need maintenance and some taken care of.
