Orvidų sodyba — Attraction in Klaipeda County

It is sad to see how abandoned the place is . 25 years ago I was here with a school, and I remember by then a conversation of our teacher and the owners who where responsible on running the museum. Our teacher was criticising the owners of low care, that the artists works and workshops not being properly preserved, and that was already visible by that time. Today I left the museum with deep disappointment. Everything is rotten , the workshop places, the wood sculptures the environment itself feels abandoned. Maybe that is the idea of letting it go after the last creators death, but then it should equally stand a clear statement explaining why museum is in such conditions. I would definitely be afraid of taking children, and I would not feel safe of letting them walk around, as all the under stone paths, sculptures, especially where the central composition/workshop stands it doesn’t look safe anymore, the feeling is that it can collapse at any time. Strange that no one from the government, department of culture and safety do not pay attention. Missing safety, guiding, information signs. No education centre with video, sound or just basic archives. The only good was the new toilet, but is it that why visitors stop by and pay 6 Eur entry fee? It looks like that the main business there is AIRBNB, party and wedding place. "Gargždelės kaime esanti Orvidų sodyba, garsėja akmenų skulptūrų muziejumi. Jį įkūrė Vilius Kazimieras Orvidas (pranciškonas brolis Gabrielius, O. F. S.), padedamas savo tėvo Kazimiero Orvido. Orvidų sodyba susideda iš daug dalių – akmenų, medžių, tanko, senų daiktų ir t.t. Apie ją nieko negali spręsti be visumos, pamatęs vieną akmenį. Gali studijuoti kiekvieną nedidelį tos visumos elementą, bet viskas susideda iš kompozicijų. Iš pradžių atrodo, kad tai paprastas akmuo, bet įsižiūrėjęs gali pastebėti, jog kažkas yra pakeista, kad sudarytų dar didesnę mistiką ir sukeltų dar daugiau apmąstymų. Sodyba išraižyta takų takelių, kad ir pasiklysti nesudėtinga. Daugelį metų iš Salantų apylinkių į sodybą buvo vežami melioratorių sunaikinimui pasmerkti rieduliai, šimtamečiai ąžuolai, griaunamose sodybose likę etnografiniai daiktai, iš kapinių pašalinti seni kryžiai. Iš akmenų ir ąžuolų kamienų sudėliotos architektūrinės kompozicijos, tarp kurių pastatytos ir V. Orvido sukurtos akmens skulptūros, kryžiai, paminklai su tautine ir religine simbolika. Ilgainiui sodyba įgavo milžiniško trikampio formą – krikščionių ikonografijoje tradicinę Apvaizdos akį, kurią apjuosė kanalai, akmenų ir žemių pylimai. Kiekvienas Orvidų sodybos lankytojas savaip supras Viliaus sukurtą pasaulį, tačiau abejingųjų jo kūrybai tikrai nebus. Akmenyse tiek daug paslėptos mistikos. Well, this place is more oriented to religious people, or who love stone craft - art. Many different crosses and sculptures related to religious traditions. You can find some other art instalations, but you have to understand and love arts to understand them. But overall, it is impresive to see how one man can change his environment and create this kind of place next to where he lives. For me most impresive thing was - World War II Soviet Tank.
