Respublikinis Vaclovo Into akmenu muziejus — Attraction in Mosėdis

In the North West of Lithuania there is a little village named Mosėdis, which is famous for its unique Museum of Rare Stones. This museum collects, stores, displays, restores and preserves the most significant and valuable Lithuanian boulders, reveal their natural variety, nature and scientific significance, mineralogical and petrographic peculiarities, advocate for ecology.

Dr. Vaclovas Intas (1925–2007) established this Open Air Museum of Rare Stones. In 1955 he graduated from the Kaunas Medical Institute and started working at the Mosėdis Hospital. V. Intas brought plants of 1,300 species from the former Soviet Union’s botanical gardens and decorated the whole Mosėdis region. From 1957 he started collecting stones. Since 1971 big stones formed the Museum of Stones. Dr. V. Intas and his project was and still is assisted by many people who helped to establish and further develop the Museum. Great place Founder of this museum is inspiring personality. Most likely you'll spend atleat 3hours in this place. Actually i dont know do workers speak in English, but as I am native speaking lithuanian had rally nice time speaking with them in chamber department. Will apload alot pictures. Enjoy. A lot of free parking Toilets are clean and free to use. Maybe museum could organize designated picnic area. I had no time to visit house of the founder but i know that it is also impressive...

Небольшой и очень красивый музей, в котором работают замечательные, любящие свой город и край люди! Работница на кассе очень внимательная, предложила нам проспекты на русском языке, рассказала об авторе работ, висящих на стенах, дала карты и буклеты. Вообще, это уникальный музей в том смысле, что вся информация о экспонатах представлена на 4-х языках: литовском, английском, русском и немецком. Парк просто прекрасен: ухоженный, уютный, тихий, много красивых камней. Мы провели в нем около 2,5 часов, ребенок был в восторге! Парк не окружен заборами, и сначала кажется, что можно в него пройти не заплатив в кассе, :-) но делать этого не стоит - в парке установлено видеонаблюдение. Мы очень рады, что посетили этот музей, обязательно заезжайте, если едите через Литву к морю. Сам городок Моседис - очень милый, чистый...
