Šalia Nemuno ir Dubysos santakos įsikūrusio Seredžiaus miestelio didingai iškilęs piliakalnis, vadinamas Palemono kalnu. Legenda pasakoja, kad tai legendinio Lietuvos valstybės įkūrėjo Romos kunigaikščio Palemono kapas.Palemono kalnas padavimuose laikomas šventa senovės apeigų vieta, perkūnviete. Jau I tūkstantmetyje bei II pradžioje čia stovėjusios pilies egzistavimą liudija piliakalnio papilio plote aptinkama lipdyta grublėtu paviršiumi keramika bei kiti radiniai. Nuo 1293 m. ant Seredžiaus piliakalnio stovėjusi lietuvių Pieštvės pilis minima rašytiniuose šaltiniuose. Pilis buvo dažnai puldinėjama vokiečių riterių. Sugriauta 1363m. Pieštvės pilis Lietuvos gynybiniame kare su Kryžiuočių ordinu vaidino reikšmingą vaidmenį. Nuo XIII a. paskutiniojo dešimtmečio iki XIV a. septintojo dešimtmečio stabdė Ordino veržimąsi Nemunu į Lietuvos gilumą. Palemono kalnas ir vaizdai nuo jo mane sužavėjo. Tikrai – vienas gražiausių Lietuvos vaizdų. Nuostabus vaizdas atsiveria į jį užlipus, net neįpusėjus kalno, jau žadą atimantis vaizdai, tai lipdama laipteliais galvojau, o kas toliau... Tikiu, skirtingais metų laikais jis vis kitoks ir savaip nuostabus, spalvingas. Tiek kartų pravažiavus pro šią vietą, net nesustodavau, o dabar norėčiau grįžti visais keturių metų laikais. Puiki vieta gėrėtis panorama bei svajoti, sustoti atsikvėpti, pailsėti, aptarti Romos kunigaikščio Palemono ir jo grupės atvykimą ir jo palaidojimo aplinkybes čia, nors istoriniai šaltiniai rašo, kad ant Palemono kalno stovėjo medinė Pieštvės pilis, kuri buvo svarbi karuose su kryžiuočių ordinu.
