Esch-sur-Sûre Castle — Attraction in Esch-sur-Sûre

On our short stop in Esch-sur-Sûre we decided to have a look at the castle that oversees this small town. It must have been a huge castle in the past judging by the the remains that still stand. There is a relatively well maintained footpath up to the castle, and the ruins. The short path up is not suitable for wheelchairs and real elderly - and probably a bit slippery when wet - but don't let this scare you off: it is not steep, and the views over Esch-sur-Sûre, the river Sûre (Sauer) and surroundings are really nice...

Beautiful castle and extremely well preseved. Imagine that the empty rooms that you see now, were once upon a time full of people, wooden furniture and smells from vegetarian food. Do wonder where those people bath and how the water was arriving there, and you will feel the difficulties of living back at that time. The view is impeccable, I suggest that you try to make a 360° panorama. Prefer to walk and enjoy during daytime and up to the sunset. Watch your step in winter, algae on the old path makes it...

The whole place is wonderful. The village is beautiful and quite. The view is amazing from up side. You can also visit the old church on the way up to the castle. Parking is available in the village for free. You can also set near the river in the village and enjoy the transparency and purity of the water. The road to the castle in google map is wrong and we had to ask to know from where to start...
