ஆங்கிலத்தில் எழுதுவதற்கு மன்னிக்கவும் . After having a wonderful and amazing darshan at Sri Akshaya Natha Swamy temple, we came to this temple. Though we have done the navagraha temple visits long time back, no one told us, that before visiting Suryanar temple one should visit this temple first. Anyway, so happy we finally were able to enter the temple. Temple face east, Lord faces east, Beautiful rajagopuram present and it faces east too. Kodimaram present, Temple pond present infront of the temple, full of water, and some what properly maintained too. Temple was kind of busy but not that many people in the sanctum sanctorum. It was so nice, and we started reciting our thiruvasagam song, as the priest was showing the aarathi. After he gave the prasadam, he stood near us to listen to what we were reciting. After we finished, he asked us, "were u reciting the Sivapuranam", i said, yes we were reciting the sivapuranam. The priest said, it was very nice. we bowed to him and said , all the praise should go to the Lord. I wanted to go out, since i was sweating a lot, but my wife stopped and said, "please say that thevaram song also". i asked her which one ?. she said the one you were saying at home recently. I said ok, and we went and stood facing the Lord and started to recite the "Potri Thiruthandagam". "Potri Thiruthandagam" was sung by Appar Peruman, in praise of the Lord of Kailash. It has 10 stanza and the first stanza goes like this வேற்றாகி விண்ணாகி நின்றாய் போற்றி மீளாமே ஆளென்னைக் கொண்டாய் போற்றி ஊற்றாகி உள்ளே ஒளித்தாய் போற்றி ஓவாத சத்தத் தொலியே போற்றி ஆற்றாகி யங்கே அமர்ந்தாய் போற்றி ஆறங்கம் நால்வேத மானாய் போற்றி காற்றாகி யெங்குங் கலந்தாய் போற்றி கயிலை மலையானே போற்றி போற்றி As we were reciting it in full flow, the priest was standing there watching us and listening to the recitation. Once we finished the recitation, i don't know what happened, the priest went into the sanctum sanctorum, and took a garland which was on the Lord (lingam), came back and put it on my neck. Don't know what to say.............. The priest asked us what was that song, and we explained to him who sung it, which Thirumurai it is, and what is the song about, etc etc. He was so so happy to listen to us. He thanked us for coming to his temple and reciting that song. My wife was laughing at me and telling me, "see you were singing Thiruvasagam, the Lord kept quiet, and when you sang the Thevaram song, he appreciated it, and acknowledged it with a garland. I smiled................................. Wonderful, amazing temple, wont forget it this temple in our life, for the sheer beauty of the temple and also the fact that we were blessed by the lord. அருள்மிகு பிராணநாதேசுவரர் திருக்கோயில், திருமங்கலக்குடி- 612 102. தஞ்சாவூர் மாவட்டம். தல சிறப்பு: இங்கு சிவன் சுயம்பு மூர்த்தியாக அருள்பாலிக்கிறார். பொதுவாக கோயில்களில் சிவலிங்கத்தில், ஆவுடையாரை விட சற்று உயரம் குறைந்ததாகத்தான் பாணம் இருக்கும். ஆனால் இக்கோயிலில் பாணம், ஆவுடையாரைவிட உயர்ந்ததாக இருக்கிறது. நடராஜர் சன்னதியில் மரகதலிங்கம் ஒன்று உள்ளது. இரவில் திருக்கல்யாணம் : மதுரை மீனாட்சி சுந்தரேஸ்வரர் போன்ற கோயில்களில் காலையில் திருக்கல்யாணம் நடந்து, மதிய வேளையில் திருக்கல்யாண விருந்து வைக்கப்படும். ஆனால், இக்கோயிலில் இரவில்தான் திருக்கல்யாணம் நடக்கிறது. பங்குனியில் நடக்கும் பிரம்மோற்ஸவத்தின் ஏழாம் நாளன்று திருக்கல்யாணம் நடக்கிறது. அன்று மாலை 6 மணிக்கு மேல் மாப்பிள்ளை அழைப்பு, சுவாமி, அம்பாள் மாலை மாற்றும் வைபவமும், ஊஞ்சல் காட்சியும் நடக்கிறது. இரவு 9 மணியளவில் சுவாமி, அம்பிகை திருக்கல்யாணமும், அதன்பின் திருமண விருந்தும் நடக்கும்.இக்கோயில் சோழர்களால் கட்டப்பட்டது. சிவனின் தேவாரப்பாடல் பெற்ற 274 சிவாலயங்களில் இது 38 வது தேவாரத்தலம் ஆகும். திருவிழா: பங்குனி உத்திரம் - 10 நாட்கள் - பிரம்மோற்சவம் - 2 ம் நாள் திருக்கல்யாணம் விசேசம் - இத்தலத்தின் மிக முக்கிய திருவிழா இதுவே ஆகும். இது தவிர சங்கட சதுர்த்தி, கிருத்திகை ஆகிய நாட்களும் இத்தலத்தில் சிறப்பு மிகுந்த நாட்கள் என்பதாகும். அஷ்டமி தேய்பிறை அன்று பைரவர்க்கு விசேசம். மாதாந்திர பிரதோச நாட்களின் போது பக்தர்கள் கூட்டம் கோயிலில் பெருமளவில் இருக்கும். வருடத்தின் சிறப்பு நாட்களான தீபாவளி பொங்கல், தமிழ் ஆங்கில புத்தாண்டு தினங்களின்போதும் கோயிலில் சிறப்பு அபிசேக ஆராதனைகளும் நடக்கும். பொது தகவல்: சிவன் சன்னதிக்குச் செல்லும்போது முன் மண்டபத்தில் மகாலட்சுமி, சரஸ்வதி இருவரும் துவாரபாலகிகள் போல இருபுறமும் காட்சி தருகின்றனர். இவ்விருவரும் இரு கால்களையும் மடக்கி பத்மாசனத்தில் அமர்ந்திருப்பது விசேஷமான தரிசனம். இதில் சரஸ்வதி வீணையில்லாமல் காட்சி தருகிறார். பிரகாரத்திலுள்ள நடராஜர் சன்னதியில் அடுத்தடுத்து இரண்டு நடராஜர்கள், சிவகாமி அம்பிகையுடன் இருக்கின்றனர். இதில் பிரதான நடராஜருக்கு அருகில் இருக்கும் மற்றொரு நடராஜரின் பாதத்திற்கு கீழே, பூதகணம் ஒன்று சுவாமியின் நடனத்திற்கேற்ப இசைக்கருவி வாசித்தபடி இருக்கிறது. பிராணநாதர் கோயில் பிரகாரத்தில் சூரிய தீர்த்தம், சந்திர தீர்த்தம் என இரு தீர்த்தங்களும் அருகருகில் இருக்கிறது. சிவனது இரண்டு கண்களாக இருக்கும் சூரிய, சந்திரர்களே இங்கு சிவனை குளிர்விப்பதற்காக தீர்த்தமாக இருப்பதாக சொல்வதுண்டு. சுவாமிக்கு இந்த இரு தீர்த்தத்தையும் சேர்த்தே அபிஷேகம் செய்கின்றனர். சிவன் சன்னதி கோஷ்டத்தில் விஷ்ணு துர்க்கை இருக்கிறாள். பிரார்த்தனை நவகிரக தலங்களில் சூரிய தலமான சூரியனார் கோயிலுக்கு செல்லும் முன்பு இத்தலத்துக்கு வந்து வழிபட வேண்டும் என்பது முக்கியமாதலால் நவகிரக தோஷமுள்ள பக்தர்கள் இத்தலத்தில் வந்து வழிபட்ட பின்னரே சூரியனார் கோயில் செல்கின்றனர். தீர்க்க சுமங்கலி பாக்கியம் : திருமணம் ஆன பெண்கள் அம்பாள் கையிலிருந்தே திருமாங்கல்ய கயிறு வாங்கி அணிந்து கொள்வது இத்தலத்தில் மிகவும் விசேசம். தவிர நவகிரக தோஷம், பெண்கள் திருமண பாக்கியம்,குழந்தை பாக்கியம், சுமங்கலி பாக்கியம், சத்ருபயம்(எதிரிகள் பயம்) நீக்கம்பெறல், திருட்டுபயம் விடுபடுதல் ஆகியவற்றுக்காக பக்தர்கள் பெருமளவில் இத்தலத்தில் வழிபாடு செய்கிறார்கள். நேர்த்திக்கடன்: தொடர்ந்து பதினொன்று ஞாயிற்றுக் கிழமைகள் மதியம் 12 மணிக்கும் 12.30 க்கும் இடையில் வெள்ளெருக்கு இலையில் தயிர் சாதம் நைவேத்தியம் செய்து அங்கு கோயில் பிரகாரத்தில் நடைபெறும் வழிபாடுகளிலும் பங்கு பெற வேண்டும். இப்படி செய்தால் நவகிரக தோஷம்,எல்லாவிதமான வியாதிகளிலிருந்தும் விடுபடலாம். தொடர்ந்து ஐந்து வெள்ளிக் கிழமைகள் மங்களாம்பிகையை ஆராதிக்கும் பக்தர்களுக்கு மாங்கல்ய தோஷம் ராகு, கேது சனி முதலிய கிரக தோஷங்களும் விலகி திருமணத்திற்கு உரிய தடைகளும் நீங்கி மாங்கல்ய பாக்கியம் உண்டாகும். அம்மனுக்கு திருமாங்கல்யம், புடவை சாத்தி சுவாமிக்கு வஸ்திரம் படைத்து அபிசேகம் செய்து வழிபாடு செய்து 5 சுமங்கலி பெண்களுக்கு ஜாக்கெட் துணி மஞ்சள் குங்குமம் , பூ வெற்றிலை, பாக்கு, சீப்பு , கண்ணாடி வளையல், மாங்கல்ய கயிறு தட்சிணை வைத்து கொடுத்து ஆசி வாங்குதை நேர்த்திகடனாக பக்தர்கள் செய்கிறார்கள். சுவாமிக்கு நல்லெண்ணெய், மா பொடி, திரவிய பொடி, மஞ்சள் பொடி, பஞ்சாமிர்தம், தேன்,பால், தயிர், பழவகைகள், இளநீர், சந்தனம் விபூதி ஆகியவற்றால் அபிசேகம் செய்யலாம்.கலசாபிசேகம் செய்யலாம்.கோயிலுக்கு வரும் பக்தர்களுக்கு அன்னதானம் செய்யலாம்.

om namasivaya ....The temple is glorified by Tevaram hymns[2] The temple is believed to have been built by a minister of Kulothunga chola1 with the tax money amassed. This invited the wrath of the king and he ordered punishment to the minister. The minister's wife worshipped Mangalambigai (Parvathi) of this temple to save her Mangalyam (holy tie worn by married woman). The minister was punished and his corpse was brought to Tirumangalakudi. The moment it reached the place, he got his life back due to the effect of the presiding deity. From then on, the place is believed to provide aegis to Mangalyam. Also when Navagrahas were cursed to have leprosy by Brahma for relieving a saint from leprosy as they do not have authority to change destiny, Brahma asked them to go to thirumangalakkudi and pray Kol Vinai Theertha Vinayagar (Ganesh who absolved sins of planets)to be absolved from their sins.

Beautiful Shiva temple. One must visit this temple before visiting Suriyanar Kovil, the Sun temple. It is believed that Sun and the navagrahas prayed to Lord Shiva here and were rid of leprosy disease (due to a curse).
