It was incredible place, where you can see a lot of animals, really beautifull nature. For longer distances, you need permit and guide. I recomended stay for two nights. There are two nice waterfalls, sulphur warm springs hight tree in the forest and lovely botanical garden. You can climb Bombalai hill for free to nice view on national park and palm oil plantation nearby. We did it on ourselfs. Entrance fee for three days is 20 RM. We get here with our tent (for foreines is the same price as for hostel 20 RM). Inside is nice restaurant with good spicy food (around 10 RM per portion). What i didn't like was that this national park closed some possibilities (there were more trails, bird watching spot and canopy walk). On one day they get nice presentation about the scientist importance figs in wilderness, i would recomended to more introduce your own research and more involved locals. The lokals loved this place for weekends barbecuing and swimming in the river. Horewer. Stuff of national is nice and helpfully and we really enjoyed stay. Thank you for this...
Read moreTawau Park is a truly beautiful place, with impressive flora and fauna. I stayed there for two days and managed to do several trails: Bukit Bombalai, Pokok Seraya Siput Kuning, Air Terjun Galas, Air Terjun Table, the hot springs, and the botanical garden.
However, I was quite disappointed with the condition of the trails. Most of them were in very poor shape — muddy and not properly maintained — which made hiking quite difficult.
In addition, to access the longer trails (Maria, Lucia, and Madalena), you need a special permit and a guide. This made the visit quite complicated, as we didn’t manage to get any response before arriving at the park. Since the park opens at 8 a.m. and you need to start the trail at 6 a.m. you need to stay one additional day if you can’t contact them beforehand.
The entrance fee is 20 MYR for foreigners, which is a very reasonable price, but it would be great if that money were better invested in the park’s maintenance.
One important note: there are many leeches, so I strongly recommend wearing long pants...
Read moreThe price is great 20 myr to get in and see an amazing variety of nature and animals and 50 for a lovely cabin out in the bush. The service is even better! I got sick as hell overnight on my own initiative and the next morning I was in dire need of a hospital… they drove me there free of charge (30 min ride) and even fronted the 100 myr hospital registration fee.. I was there until 18:30 and after paying hospital bill I had 55 myr left in cash and a non working credit card on my person.. the manager arranged to get one of his personal friends to pick me up and drive me back for 40 myr (a fraction of a taxi ride)… when I got back from the hospital I was incredibly starved not haven been able to really eat in 3 days…. The manager gave me a full portion of his own takeaway food again free of charge…. These are genuine...
