Makam Laksamana Bentan (Megat Seri Rama) — Attraction in Johor

Makam Laksamana Bentan which is located at Kampung Kelantan Kota Tinggi Johor Datul Takzim. This historical place is a legend by itself as it depic the loyalty of the Laksamana to the Sultan back then. And the betrayal of the Sultan to the laksamana while fighting the enemy to safe guard the kingdom territory . And the revenged & hated to the Sultan upon knowing his wife die from the Sultan instruction to kill her just for her craving for a piece of jackfruit.( The history was made into film title ' Sultan Mahmud mangkat di julang').

The tomb in Kota Tinggi is next to the Johor river banks and it was 50 meter away but since the Big Flood in 2007 errosion had seen the tomb just next to the river bank and the tomb seem to be higher than before. Legend says that the tomb will not be flooded, but it did on the day of the Big Flood 2007 which covered the whole tomb . It was submerged for nearly 2 weeks. Before the great flood the tomb was surrounded by few houses which is not there now as it was swept away during the great flood. It is only the Tomb which is left and maintain for historical site for visitor/tourist to visit.

History lover should definitely check this place out if you come to Kota Tinggi. Nestled next to the main river of Kota Tinggi town, the tombs laid peacefully with another tomb which could be Laksamana Bentan's wife's tomb, Dang Anum. Both graves were located a bit higher than the ground and you can climb the steps to visit them. There were historical backgrounds of his death written in Bahasa Melayu, English Language, Chinese Language and Japanese Language too. I would say that effort should be applauded as visitors from other countries can get the information clearly besides referring to the internet for more background check.
