We were charged RM10 for admission and at the ticket counter, they ask you to check in via scanning a QR (& reminded to check out when we left) - which I felt was a good move as I can see how that would be useful. You are expected to provide your name and contact details, together with the number of hikers in your party and an emergency contact. Since the nature park is rather secluded, remember that mobile connectivity would be intermittent.
The hike for this park is broken up into several sections, most of the key spots clearly marked. The start of the hike was marked with too many steps to count which can be challenging if one lacks the stamina. But there are plenty of benches / rest areas so know yourself; take it easy, rest when needed and stay hydrated (no other places to buy water except at the entrance of the park so buy your water before you start). There are toilets at several spots along the trek so nature calls are not an issue.
The waterfall is one of the 1st stops along this hike and if that’s what you are after, you can turn around and walk back thereafter. It’s dry season when I visited so there wasn’t much water falling. It’s still a nice spot to chill nevertheless.
The next stop is the 7 wells. Again, it’s a lovely spot to take in the scenery. From the bridge, you can see the ocean and there are many photo spots and little “wells” for you to cool down from the heat.
Following this spot, it’s back to nature. No more steps and all jungle trek to navigate. I can see how it will be tricky and muddy to get to the next spot when wet season comes around and potentially will need to be a lot more careful to avoid slipping/falling. The trek is clearly marked by human (as in there are “foot paths”) so don’t worry about getting lost. Just before the start of this part, there is another QR code to scan to check in/out as well. On the map, there were 2 lagoons; however, the directional signs only led us to one i.e. the blue lagoon. It’s a small lagoon and not quite what I expected.
From this point, the group of us turned around and headed back to start. It took us abt 4 hours both ways, with plenty of rest time, photo taking and soaking in the waters. A good morning activity to consider if you are a...
Read moreInstructions on how to get here and what to do (including hiking to Peak 701 or Machinchang):
get to the end of Jalan Telaga Tujuh and look around for the ticket office. It was 10RM per adult (for foreigners) to access the waterfalls.
If you take the first left as you go up the stairs up from the ticketing office, you will get to the Level 3 - 7 Wells Waterfall. (I did not go to this one but this is what most people go to).
If you keep going up the stairs from the ticketing office without any detours, you will reach Level 4 - Jambatan (Bridge). This was the toughest part of the trek because of the stairs.
From Level 4, you can also go to the Level 5 - Green Lagoon Waterfall. (I did not go to this one. So, no pictures).
Note that, as you exit Level 4, there is a board that reads "Machinchang peak 2hrs". If you are planning to hike to the peak, know that this board is incorrect and misleading. Continue reading below.
From Level 4, you can do a moderately easy trek to get Level 6 - Blue Lagoon Waterfall which is a natural pool that is about 5ft deep and very enjoyable to take dip in.
Any trekking past the Level 6 - Blue Lagoon will take you to Peak 701 or Machinchang peak. There are no waterfalls on this way and the trek is very very difficult. From the Blue Lagoon to the peak, it will take you around 3 to 3.5 hours. This will be stated on a board with red letters that reads STOP. (See Pic). It will also say that the peak is 1750m away but it is likely referring to the horizontal distance, and not the height above sea level. Make sure that if you want to get to the peak, you have enough time to return atleast 1 hour before sunset at 7pm. The forest can get very dark by 6pm or earlier if it is also cloudy.
If you are planning a hike to the peak, you do not need guides as the path is roped most of the way with only short breaks in between.
I have attached pics of the hike from ticketing office to Level 4 - Jambatan to Level 6 - Blue Lagoon. There is also a somewhat useful map picture upload as well. I wrote this review as a set of instructions for those wanting to get to the peak because, when my friend and I were searching, we didn't find all the information...
Read moreThis is also known as seven hill waterfall.
The Seven Wells Waterfall (or Jalan Telaga Tujuh) is regarded as the best waterfall in Langkawi. Named because of seven natural pools formed by the river, the falls plunge about 100m off the second-highest mountain on Langkawi (Gunung Machinchang or Mat Cinang) on the eastern side of the island. You get a good aerial view of the falls from the cable car, which goes to the top of Gunung Machinchang. The cable car , comes first if you take left from the road and the waterfall is straight ahead.
The base of the Seven Wells Waterfall is an easy 400-500m walk from the carpark. It would take about 20-30 minutes. There’s a pool at the bottom of the falls also, which is generally less busy than the top. I first went to the pools on the top and then came down.
It’s a short but steep walk up. From the pool closest to the top of the falls (which is fenced), you get a great view. There are seven pools or “wells” at the top of Seven Wells Waterfall, which is a popular spot for also a bumpy ride, as you lie down in the flow of water the water will take you from one pool to another. Polished by the water, many of the pools have natural water slides between them. The best time of the year to visit is during (September/October) or after (November/December) monsoon season when the water flow is highest and all the pools wil be full. I went in just before the monsoonz and it still had water to have fun.
The walk up to the falls continues to the peak of Gunung Machinchang, which is a challenging route. Details of the walk/ trek is mentioned in the Gunung Machinchang review.
