Gunung Raya — Attraction in Langkawi Island

Gunung Raya - Located in Central Langkawi Island, Kedah Darul Aman, Malaysia. There're two way to reach/approach the peak, either drive, ride or track towards the peak with height of 881m/2907 ft asl. There's a track for those who're interested to climb/hike up through the trail of 'Tangga Helang Seribu Kenangan' (Thousands Memories Eagle Stairs). The distance about 3.1km with 4287 steps and the duration around 2 2 1/4 hours to the peak/summit. The mountain summit is largely unutilized with one section housing MEASAT - satellite control towers. I hiked to the top using the main road. I personally wanted to do the climb for the exercise and the nature on the way up, and that part did not disappoint. But, alas, I think most travelers are interested in a review of the summit and not my personal motivations. The summit was really disappointing. You're in the clouds, so the view is rubbish, the viewing tower is deserted, the hotel closed, and to quote buzz lightyear, no sign of intelligent life anywhere. I ran into a couple who drove up (as many do) to see the view, found it was a ghost town, and headed back down (fortunately, with me catching a ride back down as I did not fancy a 4 hour trip all the way back down again). I was looking for a challenge when I decided to climb those stairs, because I saw on Google maps that there was a waterfall, this review is made to primarily say the truth about that place and neglect all the faulty pictures.

There is no waterfall at all, climbing up can be challenging if you aren't a fit person like myself, but doable if I managed to get there anyone can, however keep in mind that climbing for 2 hours to that view may not be the best thing ever so you might wanna consider renting a bike or a car and drive to the top.

Generally the view was really nice, and climbing the way up and witnessing the view is really amazing, it feels like you earned it, so give that a shot in the morning if you ever go to langkawi, again no...
