I booked a half-day Rafflesia tour with Cameron Service in Tanah Rata as a solo traveler, making a last-minute decision. The booking process was smooth, and the staff accommodated my solo participation, which I really appreciated. Before the trip, I picked up some essentials in Tanah Rata: sports gloves from Mr DIY, insect repellent from a pharmacy, two 500ml water bottles, and some buns for snacks. Highly recommend bringing these, as the trek can be tough and you’ll need to stay hydrated and protected from insects. The driver picked me up and brought me to the hiking spot, where a local native guide led the trek to the Rafflesia. The jungle trek was challenging, with uneven terrain, rubber water pipes, and two river crossings-be prepared to get your shoes muddy and possibly soaked. I suggest leaving electronics like tablets and your passport in your hotel safe to avoid water damage. I only carried a portable power bank and my smartphone for photos. The hike itself was physically demanding but beautiful, passing through raw Malaysian forest. I wore long pants with my socks over the cuffs and reapplied insect repellent several times to guard against leeches and insects. Using the hiking stick provided by the guide helped a lot, especially since I slipped a few times. Reaching the Rafflesia flower was an amazing experience-it looked like something out of a fairy tale and made the tough trek worthwhile. I recommend having a good breakfast before the tour and packing a backpack with essentials. Next time, I’ll bring a spare T-shirt and maybe shorts, just in case I get wet during the river crossings. My jacket stayed in my backpack for use when returning to the cooler areas of the Cameron Highlands. Overall, this was a unique and memorable adventure. The tour is physically challenging but absolutely worth it for nature lovers. Would love to come back and witness another...
Read moreRafflesia flowers or the Pakma only grow in Asia and the Lojing Highland has one of the biggest rafflesia flower. Meet up is at the Lojing Eco Forest where there are toilet facilities and some stalls selling local food, basic necessities and even topup for handphone! From there it’s an almost one hour 4 wheel drive to the trailhead. From there its a 1-2 hours hike depending on where the ‘pakma’ is found. Its a wonderful forest trail passing several river crossings and discovering flora and fauna along the way! We also had a short stop at a waterfall on this trek. We had orang asli guides who guided us and shared alot of information along the way which made the hiking even more interesting. The excitement of discovering and actually seeing this beautiful flower is beyond words!! Take as many photos as you want as the experience is priceless!! And dont forget to bring a RM10 note as it has the picture of the rafflesia on it and its like a tradition to snap a photo of this awesome flower with the RM10 note.😃 Its best to stay at Cameron Highlands Brinchang or Kampung Raja as its nearest to the Lojing Eco Forest meetup point which happens to be under the state of Kelantan. I stayed at Kampung Raja and it was only about 30 mins drive to the meet up point. Wearing suitable clothes and shoes for hiking is highly recommended as you hv to walk along the forest terrain. Its also best to join a nature group for this hike and hunt as it will include the guide, orang asli guide and 4 wheel drive to the entrance of...
