BOH Plantations Sdn Bhd is the largest black tea manufacturer in Malaysia, with both domestic and international distribution. The BOH tea plantation, which is located in Cameron Highlands, Pahang, is also the largest tea plantation in the country.
BOH Plantations was founded in 1929 by J. A. Russell, a British-born businessman, during the British colonial era in Malaya. Russell arrived in Kuala Lumpur at age seven, in 1890; the country's primary export at the time was tin. Prior to BOH, Russell had worked in the Straits Trading Company, learning to speak several Chinese dialects (along with Malay) and making connections with wealthy Chinese tin miners.
Despite the worldwide Great Depression at the time BOH was founded in 1929, Russell was optimistic about the tea plantation business, due to steady demand. He was granted a land concession (together with veteran tea planter A.B. Milne from Ceylon) for the first BOH tea garden in Habu. Read moreVery bad encounter of an impolite staff....as a tourist I was walking around exploring the beautiful plantation in the nature mountain of Cameron highland, as I was approaching a nicely build building, i heard a loud voice screaming "hello" in a non frenly voice, i turned , is the staff I mentioned earlier , he immediately said in a loud voice again telling me not to go there, I ask him out of curiosity what is this nice building ? He just raise again his voice saying u can not enter...ok...understood , I said o, there should be a sign board ....he reply not everywhere need sign board with a refused face .
