We came here a few days ago (early April 2024) after our trip to the Tip of Borneo. Upon arrival, the ticket counter was empty. We can see the (foreigner) adult price is MYR 20. I can't remember the price for (foreigner) children, but the ticket price for Malaysians is a lot cheaper. We just went inside as there's no one around and we can see some posters, photos and bee-related displays available, including a production room (which I suspect) where they prosess & pack their honey. We can see the machine and someone inside the room through the glass window, but he was busy working and completely ignored us when we tried to get his attention. I then went straight to the souvenir shop, where I met the second person in the premises. The shop sells 3 different types of honey (wild, stingers and stingless), some other bee-related products, and souvenirs from Borneo. The shop keeper said the stingless honey is the best followed by wild honey then stingers honey. He also explained that the establishment is owned and ran by the government. The area itself is quite big based on the map displayed at the front, and we can see their garden across the parking area. Overall, this honeybee farm seems to be exhausted and not much maintenance going on but still quite a nice place to visit if you are in the area and have time to kill. We did buy one bottle of wild honey as we already bought stingless honey at another bee farm (locally owned) a few kilometres away called DMA Gombizau...
Read moreWe usually visit Kudat, but this time, our family decided to check out some attractions nearby. We found out about this place from a TikTok post.
The honey is reasonably priced, especially considering the packaging. They’ve got ready-to-go packaging that makes for a great souvenir if you’re looking for something to bring back for your family.
We happened to visit on a Sunday, which was also the tail end of the Maulidur Rasul holiday, so the production area and the tour guide section were likely closed. However, the gallery area was still open, and we spent our time at the shop and gallery. The staff also kindly suggested we take a walk around the farm if we wanted to, but we decided to stay in the gallery for the time being.
The staff member who served us was super friendly and helpful. He was the only one there that day, and his warm hospitality really made us feel welcome.
One thing to note, if I’m not mistaken, this place has a break time, so it’s best to check the hours beforehand to avoid coming during their rest period. That way, you can make the most of your visit without missing out on anything.
I’d definitely recommend checking this place out if you're in Kudat or nearby. The owner should consider more social media promotion, though everything is just a click away these days, and it makes it so much easier for people looking for cool spots to visit...
Read moreNice place. A bit off the main road with very little signs. More of an educational facility to help the locals in this honey producing facility. The entrance fee is just a mere few ringgits. But its worth it, considering the detailed explanation given in the species of bees they have, how honey is harvested, and also the staff bring you to view their actual beehives. Word of warning, if one were to have allergies to bees, advise them and they would bring you to view their sting less bees which are rather harmless. End of the tour is the tasting of the different types of honey produced. A good place to support the local industry. Less reviewed and travelled even much so since they were first established in 1983. Was the only visitors there the...
