If you are like me, love to hike and enjoy being alone in the nature, then this is a good place to start. Ive been to this place 5 times. The hike per sey is not that hard, but mind you it is looong. 16km back and forth. So you need to prepare enough food and water. For seasoned hikers, maybe it would take around 3 to 5h to complete the trail. But for the beginners it may be longer than that. At the end of the trail you will find mangrove conservation area. Nice place

Went for a hike at Kabili Trail, and surprisingly it was extremely enjoyable. Trek was harder than expected, but definitely doable. Do pack enough water and a bit of food. Best part is at the end of the trail, the staff there sells cold/hot drinks and instant noodle. So satisfying. Oh there is some leeches here and there but as long as you are prepared, its nothing much to worry about. Enjoy your time there and prepare accordingly. Oh and please don’t litter.

MY Nature Resort in Sepilok is close to Sandakan Airport and port, the gateway to the Kinabatangan River. It has a swimming pool, walks and near to the Orang Utan and Sun Bear sanctuary

The Kabili trail from RDC. A great adventure! It was easy to pursue a permit for the trek and of I go by myself, without any planning. Didn't meet anyone on whole walk and it was "real". Kind of partly rough but so beautiful! For while there could be this tense jungle and suddenly there's a bright path. Many nice views!

But in the end I realize that I should arrange some kind of pickup, for the trail ended at the building where you where supposed to show the permit, but nobody was the building was closed. But not locked from the trail side so I went in and made a lot of noise. On the other side I finally met a guy. Not sure what he was doing there and didn't speak english. He was surprised to see me and as I understood there was no way to get back to civilization by yourself. But he was friendly and and drove me to nearest fish village on his boat where also nobody spoke english but manage in the end pay someone to drive me back. It was a 30 min drive. So it went well, but I might just been lucky.

Btw, found a guest book in the house there I could se that people came in groups with organisation. I filled in my name and position: Lost, organization:...

If you do not have the time to experience the lowland rainforest in Danum Valley or Tabin in Sabah, you should spend at least two days here. The entrance to the reserve is at the Rainforest Discovery Centre. To trek the reserve, you need to purchase a permit from RDC's ticketing counter as well as RDC's ticket. These are very cheap.

The trail in the forest reserve is called the Kabili Trail and its entrance is the start of a 7.5 km trek to the mangroves. The walk is a relatively easy one mainly because the trail is on a ridge system. You can choose to head back to the RDC at anytime. Please bring lots of water, though....
