A fairly challenging walk through virgin forest at the foot of Mt. Santubong. Certain parts of the path needs very careful climb n descent as one hv to climb over big sandstone rocks, big tree trunks and roots. Probably the managing entity, ie Kem Permai can do something about the steep climb over or down the big rocks, either by building wooden or steel staircase to make the climb easier and less dangerous. On a rainy day, one has to be real careful when stepping over the rocks or tree roots as they can be pretty slippery. One mistake may lend one into falling down, in some areas, into big stone cavity of an underground brook. In one particular part of the path, the rope need to be properly fastened so that it is easier to hold as the rope is the only thing to hold on to. On the whole, the climb was very entertaining as one can see many species of hugh trees, some hundred of years old, plenty of rottans, wild fruits and flowers, etc... For those who fancy a dip in the cool water of the blue pool, be prepared to change yr clothing without any shed as the pool is in a virgin forest, about 20-30 minutes to the camp's canteen. On a rainy day, the pool may not be "blue" due to sediment from the rain. Overall, the walk takes around 3-4 for those who wish to enjoy the forest scenario, maybe a shorter time for...
Read moreFantastic albeit challenging trail through the jungle! You have to get to the start of the trail via the Eco Permai Resort and pay a RM10 entry fee when registering your details. There is a carpark right at the top of hill close to the entry.
The trail is well marked (follow the red and white markers) and begins pretty easy with flat level ground. However about 1 hour in, you’ll be navigating through streams and also a few “climbs” as you ascend. Lots of well trodden paths and footholds to help you along the way. If you have moderate fitness, you’ll be fine!
The temperature is still cool between 9-11 am in early December but the air does get heavy with the humidity. Go slow, be patient and maintain steady breathing.
You’ll find yourself ascending then descending before getting to the beautiful Blur Pool. The pool appeared to be quite shallow and cool to touch.
Overall, it took us about 3.5 hours to complete the full loop. We went slowly and took the time to appreciate the flora and fauna we...
Read moreAn enjoyable 3 hour trek through the jungle. The route is clearly marked and a map isn't required. The trail itself isn't actively maintained. You'll need to climb over/under fallen trees and rocks. More difficult parts have ropes to help you. Good footwear is essential. The blue pool isn't spectacular but will vary with the rainfall and time of year. It contains leeches after rainfall so swimming isn't advised.
Help keep the path clean by taking everything away with you and picking up litter you can. Allow 3-4 hours of walking at a moderate pace. You need to register at the reception prior to starting the walk. Last admittance...
