Was a nice place but not being maintained very well. It should be the gem of downtown Padawan. The staff are friendly and there is plenty of free parking. The mosquitos are even more friendly than the staff, bring bug spray.
Just a note on mosquito repellant. I work on my farm back in the bush. Repellant with DEET is not available here. I have tried all the repellants available in the drug store and found that OFF! works the best. The drug store down the street (a block away from the garden) called Tings has it available. It will allow you to stay longer in the garden and prevent being devoured by mosquitos.
Jan.28, 2022 update.
The gardens were updated in 2014, so there were some changes from my first trip. My big disappointment was the little replica house that was there, is now gone.
I have to say that the office area and toilet are spotless, that toilet is so clean you could eat off the floor. To the cleaning lady that was there today, very well done.
The gardens are ok but disappointing. There is no signage to identify any of the plants or what area they are from. Being an avid gardener I can see the issues of being under staffed.
The entrance fee is reasonable for foreigners like me, in fact they should bump it up to 10 MYR, but make it free for locals. But on that note they should hire a guide, someone you could question about the plants.
Would suggest a ' Friends of the Garden' volunteer group. I'll sign up, I do reside here.
Go and see the garden and those wonder pitcher plants, specially the big ones that native people use for...
Read moreThey did an excellent job on the maintainance of the garden. The leaves of the pitcher plants are green and healthy, the place is clean but there're lots of mosquitoes to be honest. Besides that the pitchers are kind off dried up thus cut off, and there were also completely healthy ones. Well this is what we call mother nature! I mean though it's not an actual jungle, they've maintained it marvellously for the visitors, mosquitoes are common and it is adviced to WEAR LONG SLEEVE CLOTHINGS or and MOSQUITO REPELLENTS. Pitchers do not grow on every leaves, since it could dry up easily thus having the need of trimming to make the vie better. All in all, nature takes care of the plants and the workers there make sure she did her job🤣
I did not regret visiting the place at all. As a nature and plant lover it certainly is eye and mind opening. Having lots to learn and gain experience from. Nature lovers are recommended to visit the place. Rm3 for Malaysians and rm 6 or 7 for foreigners i...
Read moreThe garden is small. It has many types of pitcher plants growing mostly in pots and on the ground. The plants are unique but lack information on site. The garden needs better landscaping to attract visitors. It looks a little sad. Good effort by the local council in planting the pitcher plants for future generations to see. I used to find lots of these plants in my backyard when I was little. I don't see them anymore. It shows that they're very sensitive and susceptible to environmental changes. The...
