Worthwhile to stop on your way to the Santubong resorts. This is the mausoleum of the one and only sultan Sarawak has ever got. Legend goes that his elder brother wanted him out of the way for the Brunei sultanate and made him sultan of Sarawak in 1599. He traveled to Johore and became involved in a dispute. Was ejected and shipwrecked on his way home in Kalimantan. Also went to Sambas. His son became the first sultan of Sambas. In the royal palace in Sambas, the sultan of Sarawak is regarded as the progenitor of the Sambas sultans. Finally he moved from Sambas to Sanrubong where by accident or assassination he was killed in 1641. This is his burial place.

They're actually a good amount of history that can be learned about Sarawak from this mausoleum of Sultan Tengah. I've hear stories about this Sultan, but since I was at Santubong, I decided to visit this mausoleum and see this place with my own eyes. Yes, the stories are indeed correct as inside the mausoleum, there is the history of Sultan Tengah, in Malay & in English. I spent around 10 minutes here as the place looks like undergoing some minor renovation. Please double check when coming here as the caretaker may lock the gate. Opens 9am to 5pm daily. Worth a visit, if you want to learn a little more about Sarawak's past.

Nicely refurbished and maintain. Been wanting to visit to pay my homage to Sarawak's first and last Sultan. Sarawak's history pre-Independence always amazes me. Can't help but to think so many "what ifs" should the late Sultan manage to rule for a longer period.

The tomb of the first and last sultan of Sarawak. Built on a small hill. When we visited the area was still in a repair process as the roof section of one of the corners was quite old. The area is small but grand. In the center of the tomb there is a circular opening on the ceiling covered with a metal mesh globe. Read the inscription on the wall to know about the history. An important...
