You can only drive to this sanctuary if you're driving 4×4. The patch are not fully road, and only 1 car can passed at a time. Really dangerous. It's not worth it also, because there is nothing here. No turtle no people. When I call the number given, the staff said "they're open till 5 o'clock". When I get there, really confusing because no one there. When I call them back, they said their base is at kuala terengganu, and Ma'Daerah only for activity. If you're planning to drive here, make sure to make a confirmation with the staff if MA'DAERAH TURTLE SANCTUARY currently have turtle or activity there. Good luck. P/s: However, this place is really clean. The care taker really did a good job here.

Great place if you are interested in seeing turtle hatchlings being released. Set up is a bit informal with no obvious ticket counter but if you wait around a staff member can let you know if/when they are releasing hatchlings. Hatchlings are normally released around 6pm so we had to wait around for this. We also came back that same night at 8.30pm to see if we could see any female turtles laying eggs but had no luck after waiting for 1.5 hours. Turtle season runs from April to September so they may not always have hatchlings but definitely worth a visit during that period.

When we reach the road juncture, it stated that only allow 4WD or walking, is around 650M walking distance. It took us almost 10 mins to reach the turtle sanctuary. Along the way, we are surrounded with nice nature such as beautiful flowers and butterflies. Unfortunately the sanctuary is closed, will be back in operation in May after I called. Hopefully this should be updated in Google and website proactively. My kids are disappointed but the nature walk is the bonus.

reasons to not visit this „sanctuary“:

it doesnt help the turtles if they are released so tiny. there is no chance they survive. not even one in a thousand. they might not even survive the walk to the sea because there are so many people touching them, almost stepping on them. The workers were not able to handle the big crowd. People did not listen to them. People are not educated whilst they were there. They left all of their plastic garbagge in the sand and worst of all: cigarettes!

instead what you can do:

If you really wanna help the turtles: stop eating fish and seafood! Fishing in the sea is the only real threat to turtles. you might not want to hear it so again: stop eating fish and seafood if you really care about turtles. please stop throwing your garbage and...
