Located in a picturous area ..really pleasent drive from the castle about 12 minutes. There is a icon placed on the road with a shrine photo take the turn in ...you could either drive all the way up to the car park of the shrine or park half way there and take a stroll along the pavement. We decided to take a walk along... really pleasent and enjoyable walk..it's a shrine you must pay respect where correct and decent cloths..entrance to the shrine is beautifully decorated with painting s side of the main entrance area out side the building. As you enter you will see the beauty inside the deco details.

Amidst the stone-walled farmland of North-West Gozo, the enormous Ta' Pinu church seems a little out of place. The Santwarju Bażilika tal-Madonna ta' Pinu, as it is officially called in Maltese, is not a parish church but a place of pilgrimage that attracts pilgrims from all over the island (and beyond). In 1883, Carmela Grima saw an apparition of Mary at the chapel that used to be here, marking the beginning of its success as a place of pilgrimage. In 1922, the chapel was replaced by the current, oversized church. The athletically inclined can walk the Way of the Cross that winds up Għammar Hill.

It was a magical place with the sunlight hitting it and changing the way it looked. It glows with the sunlight and when it gets dark and the lights come on. It is definitely worth seeing in the day and night. The mosaics are beautiful telling you the story of Christ. The mosaic picture behind the Alter radiates peace, hope and love. It is The Basilica that made the most impact on me and I bought a stone picture of the Mosaic behind the Alter as it touched something in my heart and I wouldn't usually want Christian pictures or paintings in my home.

How do you rate a place as an atheist when it's entire reason for existing is yet another vision of the Madonna by a peasant girl? It's earned a huge amount of money on the basis of this alleged vision and cures etc granted to those who prayed appropriately. There's a somewhat sad, even worrying exhibition of this. The building is nice, plain and adorned with carvings and mosaic pictures that are worth seeing. There's a big open area in front of the church featuring mosaics too. All in the middle of nowhere because a girl said she had a vision.
