Not sure what I was expecting, but this was ok. Off peak is 15 euro for adults (above 12) and children and senior citizens were 12.50. This goes up to 25 euro in peak season which I think started in May With the ticket, you also get a free cone of popcorn at the cinema and a postcard at the souvenir shop. Upon entry you head down a fairly steep slope, there are either steps or a slope for pram and wheel chair access. The view is really nice, and you can see the entire film set (from the 1980 Robin Williams live action film) At the bottom you enter the village, we timed it so the actors were singing and dancing on the stage and saw Popeye, Olive oil etc. The buildings are still set up with the set props, including Olive oils b&b and the postoffice. There is a shrine area for the late Robin Williams. The cinema we queued up to get the free popcorn, and entered the cinema to view a film of what the place was like in its heyday, which looked like it used to have rides. There were also posters of other films that were filmed in Malta such as Troy. Alot of the other buildings, when entered had wooden toys which you were encouraged to play. There were areas that had lots over beds on to soak up the sun and admire the view. You also could book other water activities for additional money, but we didn't do this. Back at the top, you could take part in mini golf, these were wooden short courses with wooden obstacles. It would be nice if you were provided a score card and have the courses numbered, but it was still OK. There was also a children's obstacle course at the top too on the way out, but my boy was 15, so this was jot for him. There was a restaurant after the exit, but our hotel was walking distance so we again didn't get anything here. Note, if you do walk to the entrance, it is about 18 minutes, and there is not separate path, so you have to mind the taxis, buses and bikes, but there was a gentleman selling fresh strawberries and also a roadside cafe stall selling refreshments too. I think this is more geared up for young children, and possibly older people who remember the film. Still worth a visit if you're...
Read moreI'm writing this review in March, a month where Popeye Village does not offer any water activities, so this review is for the filmset immersion only.
Popeye village is a well-preserved filmset from the musical comedy film which was produced in the 1980s. A ticket for adults costs 20€ and includes free popcorn, a free postcard and entrance to Popeye village.
I went there with little to no expectations and had a lot of fun. The weather was perfect (17-18°C, sunny) to visit, as there were a lot of shows and it wasn't too hot to walk around.
You can expect actors to interact with (including the main characters: Popeye, Olive Oyl, Nana Oyl, Bluto, as well as other side characters) the original set buildings and LOTS of amazing spots for photography.
⭐ Popeye Village has a well-timed program. There is a guided tour every hour and an event running on the main stage every half an hour or so. The shows are HILARIOUS! ⭐ The actors seem to have a lot of fun and roam around a lot. You can always ask for a picture and they will pose and interact with you. Very polite and professional. ⭐ The food was very delicious. I can definitely recommend the green burger. Everything was green— the patty, the cheese, the buns! I definitely enjoyed that one. ⭐ The village, including the toilet, is very clean. ⭐ There is a lot to explore. Because of the well-timed program, we spent about 4 hours here. They have interactive shows as well. You were able to star in your own movie (you didn't have to purchase it and they would show it in the cinema), they played games and even danced with the visitors. It was a delight.
Overall, I can definitely recommend Popeye village, even during the off-season. Make sure you go when it's nice weather for amazing views. We did not have kids, we were two adults and enjoyed ourselves. They have a lot of "selfie spots" where you can put your phone and...
Read moreThis would be a great day out with our grandkids.
Wifey and I visited Popeye Village one afternoon during our tour of Gozo.
It was peak season, 4th July 2025, but not in the school holidays but still cost us 25€ each to get in.
Wifey had seen the 1980 Robin Williams film and could relate to it straight away. I had not so had to learn as we went along.
Fortunately our timing was spot on and as we walked down to the main street the cast of characters from the film, played by modern day actors, came out on to the main street and very effectively gathered up the crowd and led them along the street in a mixture of dance, game play and song. Wifey got fully involved straight away. It was very well done.
The programme shows that throughout the day they have similar "get involved" activities.
Besides the group activities you can visit all the buildings on the set and will often come in to contact with the film characters who will remain in role as they engage with you. We met the Mayor in his office and he had the appropriate mayoral responses to everything I said as we briefly chatted.
They have also incorporated things like a cinema, cafes and sun bed areas into the village so that you can stop and relax.
In the centre of it all is a private lagoon area with various large, floating inflatables, a floating pontoon and lifeguards on duty.
The water is rather cloudy in the shallow end where everyone first gets in but clears up as the water gets deeper. You should wear watershoes as the bottom is rocky not sandy.
There are freshwater showers, cubicle changing rooms and even lockers close at hand as you leave the water.
All in all a great place to take the family for a day out but get there early to get the best value for money and maybe bring your own food and drinks in plastic, not glass, containers as everything is priced...
