Beautiful place to relax. Santa Maria Bay is located in Comino and this small, sandy beach is a quieter option than its popular neighbour, The Blue Lagoon, which is only a 20 minute walk away. Even though Santa Maria Bay is not as beautiful and breathtaking as the Lagoon, it is a better option for the bathers looking for some relaxation. Santa Maria Bay has shallow, clear waters and is set just next to Comino’s cute little police station to keep control the boats around Comino. It is mostly the locals coming with boats or guests from the Comino Hotel, as the 20 min walk from The Blue Lagoon can be exhausting in the summer heat. Santa Maria Bay might have some dead algae on the shore due to the currents, other than that, the beach is clean with bins around.

I decided to come back to Comino just so I could do the trails to see the rest of the island since the first day I went there I only stayed in the blue lagoon area. However, I don’t think this part of the island is necessarily worth it to go if you don’t have many days in Malta. It’s a more chilled place than the busy main area of the island, so if you want to scape from the caos this is a good place. It’s also more accessible in terms of getting in the water, so it’s better for kids and families. But other side of the island is more beautiful, and this beach is a bit underwhelming comparing to that. A bit flat. The track itself is beautiful but I went full of expectations and wasn’t amazed like I thought I would be. If you have time, for sure is something cool. But if you don’t, don’t bother.

Do not miss out to visit this bay, which is not as touristic as the Blue Lagoon. The water is also blue and clear, you can swim inside the caves and there is an indoor pool in one of them. Do not expect to see a lot of fish, as the area is overfished. There are some jellyfishes, which are not dangerous. Another thing I liked was the boat-ice cream- service, bringing you the refreshment right to your boat. Wow!

A rather pointless "beach". If you are visiting Comino from Gozo or Malta there are far better beaches on those islands. Yes this was quiet, but only because there is enough sand for a few people. This is not worth the walk (no bus service in out of season) and is rather falsely advertised. Most of the other pictures must be of the hotel in peak season. Go to Comino early and for the blue lagoon.

Water not as clear as blue lagoon, but more space to pitch up for a morning if you get there early. Okay for snorkeling if you stick to the right of the swimming area. Drinks and snacks available from the two catering vans on site. Parasols and deck chairs available. A 20 min walk from Blue lagoon can be spent spotting and counting lizards! Toilets were clean and lifeguards on duty.

Stunning. We had this place to ourselves when visiting Comino in Jan. It was a tip from the boat people, and so glad as Blue Lagoon was not swimable for us as a family. Gorgeous swim at Santa Maria and shallow so very accessible for families. It was a 20 min ish walk over, an easy track. No amenities at the bay itself (this may be different in high season). Very few on the island.
