The Chamarel Seven Coloured Earth is a unique and fascinating geological formation in Mauritius, featuring sand dunes with distinct layers of seven different colors: red, brown, violet, green, blue, purple, and yellow.

Created by volcanic rock weathering over millions of years, the colors are a result of varying mineral compositions.

The contrasting hues create a surreal and picturesque landscape, especially vibrant on a sunny day. If you mix the colored earth, they will eventually settle back into their separate layers after rainfall.

The attraction is part of the Chamarel Seven Coloured Earth Geopark, which also includes the Chamarel Waterfall and a tortoise park. Your entrance ticket typically covers access to all three. Easily accessible with viewing platforms that allow you to admire the dunes without walking on them (to preserve the natural wonder).

A popular spot for photographers, especially in the early morning or late afternoon light which enhances the colors.

The geopark is also home to several giant Aldabra tortoises, offering another point of interest.

You'll find a café and souvenir shop within the park.

Clear, sunny weather enhances the colors. Early morning or late afternoon is often recommended for better light and fewer crowds. The dry season (May to November) is generally considered ideal.

There is an entrance fee to access the geopark, which includes the Seven Coloured Earth, the waterfall, and the tortoise park. Prices vary for residents and non-residents.

The unique geological phenomenon and the combined attractions of the geopark make it worthwhile for many.

In short, the Chamarel Seven Coloured Earth is a must-see natural attraction in Mauritius, offering a visually stunning and geologically intriguing experience, often combined with the impressive Chamarel Waterfall and encounters with...

Reading lots of negative reviews below and you just wonder why people can’t even admire something so beautiful and natural and have to complain 🤷‍♂️ Read on further below for a detailed and informative review 😊👇🏽

Anyway this was one of the highlights of our trip and a real bucket list item of ours 🪣 The drive to Chamarel was absolutely beautiful with the windy roads up the mountain. The views were stunning seeing Benetiers island and Le Morné ❤️

The entrance to this natural attraction was well marked and it was quick to pay for the ticket at the gate (Hot tip: make sure to book online for a further discount 😉).

The 1st stop from the entrance was the Chamarel Waterfall. Absolutely stunning and a wonderful photo/video taking opportunity. Lovely view point and a must see!

Finally arrived at the 7 coloured earth 🌍 This was really beautiful and with it being partly cloudy 🌤️ We were able to see all 7 colors in their full glory and it was worth it. There are different viewing points and the mountains make a spectacular backdrop.

The real highlight was seeing those beautiful Aldabra Giant Tortoises 🐢 in their element ❤️ We literally just switched off and took in their calmness and it was unreal being with creatures that can grow up to 150 years 😳

We were so glad we did this and you won’t be disappointed if you love nature and...

I recently visited the 7 Coloured Earth Geopark in Mauritius, and it was a fascinating experience that I highly recommend. The park is renowned for its unique natural phenomenon—a striking landscape of sand dunes with seven distinct colors, formed from volcanic activity over centuries. The layered hues of red, brown, violet, blue, green, and yellow create a stunning visual effect, making it a must-see attraction. In addition to the famous seven-colored earth, the park also features the beautiful Chamarel Waterfall, which is one of the tallest waterfalls in Mauritius. The waterfall cascades down a lush cliff, surrounded by dense greenery, and offers a breathtaking view. It’s the perfect spot for nature lovers and photography enthusiasts. The park also has a small restaurant where we stopped for a quick bite. The food was simple but delicious. We tried their chicken sandwich, which was fresh and flavorful, and the freshly squeezed juice was refreshing, providing the perfect respite after exploring the park. Overall, the 7 Coloured Earth Geopark is a captivating place to visit, offering a mix of natural beauty and geological wonders. Whether you’re admiring the vibrant layers of the earth, enjoying the view of the Chamarel Waterfall, or relaxing at the on-site restaurant, it’s a destination that shouldn’t be missed when...
