Very nice hike.
You will spend most of the time behind the trees, away from bright sunlight, but you'll still get sweaty, even in the winter.
It's a bit challenging, as the trail surface varies widely, has rocks, boulders, slippery soil, multiple water crossings. So you will have to be in a decent shape.
Sometimes you may wonder which way to go, but if you pay attention to the signs on the trees (colored markings, yellow ribbons, etc.) - you'll quickly find the right direction.
The track is about 3.9 km one way, with elevation gain of around 320m, and despite what is shown on official poster at the park entrance, it takes around 1h25m to get there, and 1h20m to get back, if you don't make any stops on the way. Plan around 3h20m, to allow time for some short stops on the way, and rest at the waterfall.
A proper hiking shoes that you are not afraid of make wet and dirty are a must. Ok for children with some hiking...
Read moreBeing an outdoor enthusiast, my friend took me to the Black River Gorges, where we hiked to the breathtaking Mare Aux Joncs waterfall for an unforgettable experience! The trail itself was moderately challenging, with a mix of rugged terrain and scenic vistas that kept me engaged throughout. But the true highlight was the stunning waterfall that awaited us at the end of the hike. The trail was well-marked and well-maintained, making it accessible to hikers of all skill levels. Be prepared for some rocky and slippery sections, especially near the falls. What made this hike truly special was the sense of solitude and connection with nature. We encountered only a handful of fellow hikers along the way, and the peaceful atmosphere allowed us to fully immerse...
Read moreWe went in July and it was the worst hike I ever did. Starting at Riviere Noire entrance there is no trail, only a path full of stones in different sizes so you always have your eyes on ground not to fall. After a while it gets very muddy, then you have to cross the river several times over some slippery stones. You can of course wade through the water but the stones under water are also unpredictable and slippery and you shouldn't wear long trousers as it is advised because of the mosquitos. After crossing the river three times which took us already 2 hours we decided to return. On our way back we were attacked by dozens of biting flies. Not an experience I want...
