Too many drunks, loud noisy music and very little to no crowd control. Be very careful if you bring a dog because uncaring idiots use fireworks on the beach. Many a dog has run off scared. Some effort is now being made to control the fireworks. If your a drunken idiot American you will love the place, keep your alcohol at home and come to enjoy the beach, waves and views. Let's work together to make VSM a great place. It would also help if the locals used the trash cans not the ground. UPDATE-2018. The fireworks problem has nearly stopped but the other problems still remain. Update-2018. People still throw trash on the ground, including glass bottles which break...

Its a great beach for camping, surfing, getting in touch with nature, and staying overnight in the cabins waking up to the view of the ocean, but if you wanna take a dip in the water there are small areas of water that you can swim that are surrounded by rocks which can be dangerous, since last time I went a strong wave knocked me over onto the rocks causing me to get a scrape on my arm.I went there another time to give it second chance and near the shores there was a dead sea lion contaminating the waters, that was left for several...

Basic beach front dry camping. Mostly used by surfers. Surf break right off the camp area. Entry road was rough pavement-- I think intentionally so to keep speeds down. Exiting the camp was a bit tight in out 28 foot class A as we had to go around some buildings to get out to the highway, it was a little tight in our rig and one point there was a sharp downward drop and I was a bit concerned about clearance for our waste dump pipes, but no scrapes for us, rigs longer than 30ft might have trouble.

I have been coming to this beach since I was turned onto it 40+ years ago. Estero beach was my first love but it's changed dramatically. V.S.M. is much the same except that there are houses where trailers were the norm and the pier is gone. Still have a house there and spend about 25% of my time unplugged in Mexico.
