Basaltic Prisms of Santa María Regla — Attraction in Hidalgo

Do not miss the very old dwellings below the longest waterfall! Pay attention to the amount of light outside. Make sure to leave the dwellings more than an hour or two before dusk. Lots of stops to admire before the grand finale! Walk toward the pond area. Enjoy the grounds. Very pretty plantas. (To the left of it you can get a closer look at the longest waterfall we originally saw from above.) Exit toward the opposite side under the large tree branch braced between a pair of tall stone walls. Follow it out. Cross the river. (There is a concrete bridge) follow the Fork left, the trail goes down hill. It's a pretty short distance. My friends sixty year old mom did it twice in the few hours we were there. Ends with a lovely little pool and water fall from another canyon of basalt columns. I loved being able to get a good glimpse of Mexico's forest terrain....

Great family oriented site ($100 pesos general admission/ with pkg)Clean bathrooms available at various locations within the site. Parking was empty (Tuesday) and most of the businesses were closed. Not many people touring either so we were able to take our time looking around and taking pictures. Spite the rain, water in the prisms was not running much. Also, lots of invasive vegetation is growing in the pond which diminished the beauty of this place. I hope they invest in preserving all the features of this place. La vista desde el puente colgante es espectacular, y puedes bajar a la base de la barranca para admirar las columnas rodeadas de cascadas y arcoíris pequeños cuando el sol está presente3.

Horario: Lunes a viernes de 9:00 am a 6:00 pm, sábados y domingos de 8:00 am a 7:00 pm. Costo: Entrada general alrededor de $100 MXN por persona, incluye estacionamiento, acceso a puentes y albercas. Servicios extra (tirolesa, gotcha) se pagan por separado[6]. Recomendaciones: Lleva cámara, calzado antiderrapante (el piso puede mojarse), ropa cómoda y bloqueador solar. ¡No olvides asomarte por el puente colgante para la mejor vista!
