Went on a weekday to avoid the crowds. It's a small town with a beach that stretches out far enough for a good walk, with just enough of a sandy area to enjoy. The fishy sea smell & all the seaweed on it, I can take, but there was trash on it without any trash cans nearby except off the beach towards the town. Unlike Puerto Morelos, people were not going around trying to maintain the place. There was even a woman who came around telling everyone that they had to pay for their palapa. Some moved out, some paid. My husband had to argue that we were not under/using a palapa. (We were trying to relax in its shadow.) The palapas stretched far down the shoreline, all waiting for people to use them, & pay. It's not very encouraging when they're not letting people just relax there. It feels more like a money trap. I would like to say that I loved it there, but after being spoiled at Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo, where the workers there were clearly very helpful & kind towards the public, I am debating on whether to return or not. I may just check other beaches...

White sand beach. Shallow, warm water. Depends on the day. Some days there is sargasso. Some days no sargasso at all. But very little amount compared to other beaches in Yucatán. It can be very windy in the afternoon. The tour to the spring is not worth it. Expensive for a short distance to a not so beautiful spring. I was there in late April. There were hardly any bird to see. The water is too shallow to kayak, etc. Still charge you the same price. 500 pesos per person. Local people do not look after the place. It is not an attraction anymore. Just enjoy the beach. Fish are expensive and rare. Sisal is overfished. Only some small mojarras. No variety like other ports on Yucatán coast. Very sad that local people do not look after...

More of a local beach with limited amenities.

You'll drive through a small town with one lane shared with bicycles carriages and mopeds in order to get to the beach. We left after a short visit. Progreso may be a better option from Merida.

Beware - Other reviewers mention a DUI checkpoint using a breathalyzer test in the city when leaving the beach which we did not experience, but we left earlier in the day. FYI - Progreso also has a police DUI checkpoint when...
