Jawill ( I think that’s how you spell his name—the big guy(don't worry he knows and will even pose for you haha)) was as AWESOME a host as I have ever had in the dozen countries I've visited. His English was better than most teenagers back in the states. Full disclosure - I am partly leaving this review because I failed to bring enough cash to leave a tip. We thought cash or card would work as it was mentioned here in the reviews and the first person we spoke to when we arrived mentioned it. However, we did not book this as a part of a group/excursion. We thought it was just come as you want. So when we made it there, the tour had already begun. They were kind enough to usher us into the group. This explains why we had a miscommunication with the card/cash - there just wasn't much time for discussion of the detials without interrupting the show. Because we had to pay with cash, we just didn't have enough leftover to offer a cash tip.

Now on to the presentation/event - super entertaining. I'll save the details for the sake of spoiling the tour, but they entertained us for nearly an hour and a half. We learned, we tasted, we took photos, there was dancing. Perfect for the day that you need a break from the sun on your trip. Shade, huts, a beautiful garden area. It was just what we need for some exhausted children and adults following several days in the sun. Also, while this didn't apply to us, we noticed that they went above and beyond to accommodate the elderly folks who were part of the group--allowing them access to the front of the lines, extra shade, some walking assistance, seating, etc. 11/10 would recommend to every person I know that's coming to the island. I suggest reaching out ahead of time to schedule your tour or get information for times and whether or not payment via card is working. They explained that service is intermittent and was not working this day. I wish we would have left you guys a tip, but hopefully this strong review will pay it forward in the future. May you carry on the good work sharing your Mayan heritage...

They do an amazing job of providing a cultural experience that's engaging and educational, at a fair price, and without the sorts of ethical concerns that would be present if the village were not a recreation meant specifically for such sharing. Cozam and Ak-Lum were our guides on the tour I chose, both very friendly and fun. 100% worth it

Note1: They do a fantastic job of keeping the experience positive and I admire them deeply for that. But if you really care for history, please also be sure to visit the Cozumel Museum on your visit. This island and the Mayan people have been through SO much...

Note2: As a vegan, I was concerned I might not be able to enjoy the food experiences. If this is the part of the review you're here for, the good news is that the food you make is pretty much 100% vegetarian. However, be aware that honey is part of the traditional Mayan diet, so ask if you unsure, as you might want to skip certain taste testing opportunities. Nonetheless, even as a vegan, I still felt that I could appreciate the...

THIS IS IT!!! IF YOU ARE READING THIS- YOU- yes you, should visit this place. It's only 3.5 miles from the port. If you stop a cab and ask them they will bring you. It's a nice ride. Figure $15 or so for the taxi. The entrance fee is $22. For this you get an individual tour, learn to make maize tortilla, hands on chocolate making demonstration, and tasting! Sample different natural drinks. Dances! Drumming! Fire! Conch shell blowing! It's all very friendly and at your own pace. Perfect from kids up to seniors or even those with mobility issues. Easy, flat, shady walking. This is a great deal more for your money than whatever cruise ship excursion you might be considering. You will leave with knowledge of the Mayan history and tradition, some great photos, a warm heart and friends in Cozumel. Korwil is the absolute best. Get your picture with him now, QUICK, before he is a famous actor. Thank you Pueblo del Maiz for making our Cozumel day...

Such a fun experience! We went to Cozumel on a cruise, and booked an excursion through our cruise, this was a part of the excursion. This was so fun! Our guide Aklum (I’m so sorry if I’m misspelling this) was so delightful, patient, and had the best sense of humor. In spite of his personal concerns about his English there were no English issues. He and his fellow actors were amazing, provided a beautiful and educational experience. It was a mix of feeling like you’re included in the culture and being educated in the beautiful history of this island. We left feeling excited and eager to learn more. I am not a beach person, I’m the kind of traveler that wants to do all the activities and learn as much as I can about other cultures as possible. This was such a fun and interactive way to get involved. If you find yourself in Cozumel and you want to learn go here! Niipolal! (Thank you, possibly badly transliterated by me, in Maya)

OMG, we almost did not do this tour but so glad we did. Don’t get turned off by the entry or lack of traffic in the area. It is a gem waiting to be discovered. We Rented scooters and were able to walk in no reservations. We had our own cultural guide Juan, and he was very knowledgeable and had a passion for all that he shared with us. Very interactive and hands on, had the best chocolate making experience and can’t wait to try to make it at home ~ it was that good. If you have a few hours to explore make this the top of your list, and then go to the Mayan ruins at San Gervasio- it will be a much more meaningful experience because of the cultural experience gathered from Pueblo Del Maiz!
