We had high expectations and were more than a bit disappointed by our visit.
For starters, when we bought our tickets we were told the last guided tour starts at 4:30pm (and you cannot be in the zoo without a guide for security reasons). The tour would be just an hour.
We asked for the tour to be in English, and got a guide who knew hardly and English, didn’t know how to correctly pronounce essentials like “don’t touch” or most of the animals’ English names.
Communication was, to put it mildly, difficult throughout the visit.
There were other persons of the zoo present at the time who were much more informative, but our request that they be our guide was denied.
“Don’t touch” became a frequent command throughout the visit, so don’t expect to be able to replicate what you see in the photos on Google Maps.
A main motivation to visit had been the interaction with the different kinds of parrots they have, something I enjoy much and have experience in. I think that experience shows in how I cautiously approach the birds to se which of them would enjoy to be petted and scratched and which wouldn’t, but our guide wouldn’t let me near them.
Monkeys care a prominent feature on their web site and we indeed saw one from far, but they didn’t come near us, a long cry from being able to feed one as shown on their web site.
Google Maps shows people feeding deer, which we didn’t see, there was one wild Aguti but it was very shy and hid each time we came a bit nearer.
The parrots, the Mexican Hairless Dog, the baby boa we were allowed to hold were nice, but there were way too many sleepy crocodiles (I know they’re nocturnal), and throwing leaves and dry food at turtles in a pond wasn’t all that exciting.
The zoo would be much better if they put signs with the names of the different animals on their terrariums and cages, and if they used guide who actually speak English.
And be aware that you’re not paying for a regular visit to a zoo, but rather a short guided tour. For that, and the quality of the experience, it was...
Read moreWe have been visiting this zoo almost once a year now. Our kids love it...however I have a problem with it that doesn't seem to go away. If you pay by credit card, they charge your card, and then they take your card and type in your card number into another computer and save it. I had a long discussion as to why they feel the need to save everyones credit card information. The supervisor said that it is required by their software in order to print an invoice, but that in the future they can simply bypass it. I told her that we travel to Mexico very often, and i only use that card usually in two places....Crococun Zoo and a car rental and EVERY time I return home I have to cancel my card because of fraud. So somewhere there is problem between those two. She didn't seem to care and brushed it off. I know I should just use cash....i just don't like carrying alot, and the fact that they just keep collecting everyones card number that walks in the door just plain bothers me.
Anyways.....the Zoo is cool, very hands on and kids love it. The price is around $30 usd for adults 12 and up. It's a little pricey but we've actually seen the improvements in the park over the last 10 years.....this is nice to see that they are spending the money to improve. Many places around here seem to constantly increase their prices but never improve the facility.
4 stars for zoo, but only 3 stars because I honestly believe they have a security issue that they...
Read moreOver priced. 40 pesos would be a value, not $40 US dollars (each person over 13). The guide was very knowledgeable and nice. However it seems like every 3rd animal exhibit was a crocodile exhibit, with the crocodiles progressively getting larger/older as you move through the zoo. Another exhibit i had to laugh at was the Mexican dogs. They actually have 3-4 domesticated friendly dogs as an exhibit. The dogs are there as direct result from the Disney movie Coco that featured the Mexican hairless breed….. never the less the kids did love the dogs. Can you imagine going to the zoo in the United States and seeing an exhibit of Golden Retrievers? The spider monkey exhibit was underwhelming but they are technically wild as they can come and go from the zoo as they please, i think we saw 3 spider monkeys. If you want to see spider monkeys for free our shuttle driver on the way to the airport stopped at the 7/11 just north of the zoo and it was full of spider monkeys, much better than the zoo and didn’t cost a penny , must of saw 10 monkeys there. Anyways, neat place but way overpriced unless you’ve got extra money to blow and love crocodiles! Oh almost forgot, they have white tail...
