Grottoes Coconá — Attraction in Tabasco

The cave was beautiful and very interesting to explore. But I few things you should know: You can’t just take a taxi there, you have to call and make reservation. We took a taxi from town and a man came out and started telling the taxi driver he can’t come there and that we needed a reservation. I didn’t see anywhere online that you need a reservation but if you decide to go, research and find a number to call before you go

Since we arrived without a reservation, the guy who got mad at the taxi driver said he’ll take us. I’m not sure how this works if you call ahead and if you can take a self guided tour, but we had to pay 100 pesos for this tour.

Five stars compared to the visitor-accessible portions of major US cave systems such as Carlsbad, Mammoth, Laurel & Shenandoah. Not as deep as Carlsbad but similar in size of major vaults. Private tour takes about an hour. Paid 100 pesos ($6.50 USD) per person up-front for admission, tipped our animated guide 300 pesos at the end of the tour. Es un lugar con una belleza recreacional única. Se recomienda llevar zapatos o tenis con agarre por la humedad que hay y agua de los pasillos y de preferencia sostenerse de los pocos barandales que hay. Es una cueva con muchos murciélagos inofensivos con estalactitas enormes que van creciendo con el paso de los años. Conforme uno va entrando a las diversas cámaras va experimentando una serie de cambios corporales físicos; a veces sudarás y sentirás mucho calor y en otras cámaras frío. Vaya despacio a su propio porque cansa mucho el subir y bajar. Hay una parte en la que hay que pasar muy agachado para no golpearse con las estalactitas al pasar a la siguiente cámara. LO MEJOR ES IR ACOMPAÑADO DE UN GUÍA de los que ahí ofrecen sus servicios. POR ENTRAR A LAS GRUTAS COBRAN $100 pesos por PERSONA SIN GUÍA (Locales y parece que nacionales igual). LOS GUÍAS COBRAN NORMALMENTE $200 pesos POR RECORRIDO APARTE, pero el guía que se nos acercó a mí y otras dos amistades nos convenció de contratar sus servicios. De $500 que pagaríamos como turistas locales en total, terminamos PAGANDO SOLO $300 pesos por entrada y recorrido. Nuestro GUÍA FUE LO MEJOR DE LO MEJOR; nos cuidó en todo momento que no nos resbalaramos, que nos agarramos de los amarres que había en la cueva, y nos contó de la historia de la cueva, incluso historias sobre las formas de unas estalactitas que si hubiéramos entrados solos solo hubiéramos visto rocas en vez de belleza formada con rocas. El recorrido nos pareció muy interesante y divertido 😀😃😃. ENCONTRAMOS CENOTES (cuerpos de agua) que están profundos y hermosos. 40 años de mi vida siendo de este estado y aún no había conocido estas hermosas grutas por pensar que solo eran rocas resbaladizas en una cueva sin nada que ver.
