I have never come across such a pitiful, mind boggling and disgusting lack of human compassion in my entire life. Having conquered La Malinche, we arrived back to our vehicle which was parked at the cabinas after dark. Without any remaining food or water, we sought to drive to the nearest store, however we found that the handbrake on our car was stuck on. Having tried and failed to fix the problem for over an hour and with temperatures plummeting, we headed down to the cabinas to ask for a place to stay. Initially we spoke to the receptionist who agreed to give us a cabin for the night. We thanked him and advised we would be back in 5 minutes as we needed to retrieve our bags from the car. On our return, the security gates were locked and the security guard then advised that the receptionist had gone home (the time was 8:42pm - strange that he was there at 8:37pm and made no suggestion he was about to go home). The security guard was so rude and displayed a complete lack of any form of human decency. Quite frankly, if this lack of compassion wasn't so laughable I think I would have burst into tears. He also refused to offer us any assistance in the way of using a phone or providing us with any food or water, simply leaving us outside on the mountain. Thankfully, we were able to speak to the man who ran the shop next door (he had closed for the night) and he was an extremely friendly and helpful gentleman. He gave us a hammer to fix the handbrake and also said if we were unable to repair it he would offer us a bed for the night. We were able to repair the handbrake in the end but the pathetic and what could be interpreted as borderline racist actions of the security guard will never be forgotten. Do...

We booked IMSS La Malintzi online via the website of the vacation center. It’s not possible to pay by credit card or debit card, only by bank transfer. If the transfer is not done within 48 hours, the booking gets cancelled.
As we were not able to do the transfer from Europe, we sent an email requesting that the booking be maintained. First we received a confirmation of our request from one person, then another member of staff sent a cancellation of the booking due lack of payment. Thanks to a further exchange of emails, eventually the booking was secured and we were requested to make the payment in cash onsite.
However, when we arrived, we were told that the booking was not maintained due to the lack of payment…
We had to wait quite a long time for the receptionist to show up, he had to be called a few times on the radio by the security guards.
Long story short, in the end, a cabin was available for us. Only after I made the payment and we drove to the cabin which located at quite a distance from the reception, we found out that the cabin had not been cleaned, beds had not been made. I attach photos of the cabin as it was handed over to us. You are lucky I’m not attaching one of the toilet…
Overall, there were 2 of us paying for a 6-person uncleaned cabin. The next day, the staff apologized but did not offer any compensation.
So, all in all, choose another location for your stay before your hike to La Malinche. Other places may not be as well located but at least the standard of the service and...
Read moreGreat place to spend a weekend. Nice trails to hike up the mountain and beautiful scenery. Cabins are spacious but get cold at night due to poor door seals. You can purchase small bundles of wood at the store when open but quantity is limited and it can be damp. The store is small, only 3 people will fit at one time, and has only basic things like snacks, drinks and miscellaneous odds and ends. It does not sell matches or fire starters to aid in starting your firewood so I highly recommend you bring them unless you want to drive 30 minutes to town to get some. The restaurant isn't five star, nor should it be, but has decent food at a reasonable price. The office lacks any convenient means of communication outside of physically going there to voice any concerns or discrepancies you may find with your cabin. This isn't a major problem if you are from a similar altitude but when you are not the 10,000' altitude can make it a small chore going up the stairs from your cabin. The only issue with the place is even though they have handicap parking the cabins are not accessible from the parking lot for anyone requiring a ramp to ascend/decend as there aren't any. I had seen a couple carrying their child in a stroller up the stairs and thought how crazy it is there aren't any ramps along the stairs. Even though i am from an elevation of 700' and totally got my butt kicked going up the stairs, i look forward to returning for another great weekend...
