💦Bring a change of clothes - you will get wet!💦 Before we started our journey, we grabbed a bite to eat at the on-site restaurant. A bit pricier than San Cristobal but that’s the way it goes when there are no other options.
Advice #2: Do as the locals do, and bring a picnic.
There are plenty of places dedicated to just that, or you can find a quaint spot for you. It’s a good walk. I'd say a good km or two (expect an hour long trek).
Advice #3: bring footwear with a grip!
Now I saw a guy zooming by in flip flops so what you wear is up to you. However, the trail past the first (of 4!) Waterfalls become slippery and uneven. Besides often walking to get that perfect view requires getting dirty; which brings me to
Advice #4: bring an extra pair of clothes.
So, an hour later (unless you’re Mr. Flip flops enjoying a good speed walk) you will have reached the 'cherry on top' – the 150m waterfall! Where the midst creates rainbows, and the remaining 50m leads to the perfect view while drenching you in cascading waters.
Advice #5: bring swim gear and a towel.
We did this trip in the winter months so could not jump in the gorgeous river. Don’t feel like walking back? Good, they have several zipline runs (150m, 200m, and 300m) topping @ $200...
Read moreDO NOT TAKE A GUIDE!!!! There are two paths, one on the left and one on the right. You can take either one or the other, but you cannot switch because they belong to 2 different villages. Tour operators will take you to the left one. Once you arrive there, your tour operator will impose on you to take a guide and they will tell you that they don’t have a salary and they live because of the tips and blah blah... ok, you don’t need a guide!!! There’s only one path and it’s very well indicated, you cannot get lost and explanations are not needed (read google). The place is amazing and you will want to enjoy its beauty, but guides will make you run and stop wherever they want, to take a picture and continue. They even tell you where to buy the water or where to pee.. it’s very annoying. Please, trust me, refuse to take a guide and negotiate with your tour operator or driver to have more time (2 hours is too short) My advice, rent a car and go on your own in the morning and spend the day there. The waterfalls and the river...
Read moreThis place is heaven please go visit. There are two parks at el chiflon this park Velo de novia is the second entrance coming from Comitan an the first from tuxtla. It's part of El chiflon but be aware they are two different parks. They both have access to the waterfall but to me this park has the best views and service. The guys at the zip line were so a nice and help my two year old son to ride on it with a worker to make his dream true. The cabins are clean, have restaurant inside but they offer limited menu. They also have a kids play ground area and hammocks, the staff friendly and helpful they offer gide tours you do not really need one, but you can tip them and help the local economy and hear the stories and description of the area. Me an my family when wit out a tour . Here I took the famous bride veil picture. This place is fantastic. If you come to El cliflon choose centro ecoturistico Velo de novia you...
