An incredible and awesome "cenote" (underground cave with crystal clear water to swim in it). This is the "cave" style for only $100 pesos per person (+$50 if you need a lifejacket). This place is owned by a local family which has invested many hours in adapting a 1.2 km road to the cenote withing their property. They adapted an incredible "solar power light generator" to light the cave. You must take your swimming shoes if you want to there because you will be asked to leave your footwear at a limit-spot, otherwise you will need to walk barefoot, but it is not recommended if you have no experience walking on rocks and thousands of uncomfortable edgy mini stones. The place will be one of the best things you will remember from this trip. Just to get access, you need to pass a cave full of swallows (small fast birds) with their nests on the natural cave's roof, you will continue going down to find the place where you could swim. Imagine the "Aladdins Cave of Wonders" style but for swimming and taking pictures. You will not regret. You need to take the free-road from Cancún to Mérida. You need to pass Nueva Xcan (town), Xcan (town), Echeverría (town) and then be alert to turn left. It is about 105 kms from Cancún (65 miles) and in 1 hour 30 minutes you will be there by car. Not everybody knows about this place, it is like a "secret" for local families. This place has been opened for 5 years because the family decided to let people know their wonderful place. It is secure and it has a family environment. They have restrooms and a shower. They have an option of a walking tour around the property to see more caves, but that is optional and has an extra cost. After the sun power light runs out of energy, they use a regular gasoline power plant, but you will see it that the interior of the cenote's cave will become one of your favorite family-resting spots in the area. This is more like a family trip place for having a relaxing moment in nature. (This is much better than the "Secret" places near Cancún and Riviera Maya in which you need to pay $109 USD per person for the limited time cenote-cave tour. ) When you finish your swimming, you can take the road and go to "Tikuch" to find local restaurants (40 min car-trip) or to Valladolid (60 min) to find the biggest city around and you can find whatever you need to have...
Read moreWe arrived here and no other visitors was there and we had the full cenote for us. You could experience different animal noises such as birds and bats. Was a truly great experience. The cenote need to be accessed through a little path coming from the Main Street. Clean Changing rooms and bathrooms were there. The guys there were also very friendly although we couldn’t speak any Spanish. Entrance was 150 pp and the guys are selling googles and flashlights for another 150 which in my opinion you don’t really need but to see more from the ground it could help. (We didn’t take it). Swimming vests were not mandatory but in case you need them they were around to use. Great cenote, tiny but an adventure with clean water. A real natural experience. Would go there...
Read moreOne of the most beautiful natural wonders I have ever visited in my life. Pictures don't really do it justice. The ceiling is covered in stalactites of varying sizes. So much that you don't even see rock anymore. The same goes for the walls, completely covered in imposing altars. The water is crystal clear, clean and refreshing. Bring your mask and snorkel, there are lots of underwater stalagmites too. There is a surfboard to explore and relax on. There weren't that many other people visiting. We paid 150 pesos per Person for the entry. There were toilets and a place to change. It doesn't look like much from the outside but once you reach inside you are in a completely different world. I can only...
