Once in a lifetime experience! Cenote Palomitas, along with Cenote Agua Dulce, is one of two breathtakingly beautiful cenotes operated out of the same property. Reached by traveling several kilometers down dirt roads on the outskirts of the Valladolid area, Cenote Palomitas is a large picturesque cenote with emerald-blue waters and a scenic opening in the ceiling that allows beams of sunlight to fall down on the water when the sun is in the correct position overhead. Once descending the stairs into the cave, wide platform walkways descend to the water’s edge, where swimmers can jump in or grab a tube and float throughout the wide pool. Formations in stone line the walls, and ropes stretch across the water to give swimmers something to rest on. The cenote is a short walk from the parking area and the reception building. There is also a restaurant and bar located on the property. Life jackets are available for rent from the reception desk. There are no lifeguards...
Read moreThis cenote is mostly a cave-like experience with one hole opening near the middle (you can't jump through it). It's a huge space. Price per person is $180 pesos as of January 2023. This only includes ONE cenote even though there are two on the premises. You have to buy each one separately. They have life jackets if you want one but it's not required.
We got there around 9:30am and there were only two other people there. It's beautiful and amazing when you first see it. There are stairs all the way down with a couple of areas to put your things and stairs into the water (it's Mexico so they weren't super sturdy but worked fine). There were a handful of small fish and a handful of small inner tubes to float around with. This cenote is deep and we saw kids jumping off the rocks. There's also a gym class style rope you can climb and jump off of. Overall a really...
Read moreHidden gem in the middle of nowhere. Underground cenote with light only coming in through a small hole in the ceiling. Quite magical. Crystal clear water, not very cold. Follow the signs "Cenote Palomitas" or "Agua dulce", pass the restaurant and a small shop until you come to the big parking space. Pay the entrance at the desk, it's 200 pesos for foreigners. Lockers are available to rent for an additional 40 pesos but not really needed. You can leave your backpack next to the water, plenty of space, and even some basic benches. Even a life jacket is inluded in the entry fee. They are, however, optional. Changing rooms and bathrooms were very clean. "Lifeguard" on duty. We visited around 10 am and were the only ones apart from one other family and a group of 4 freedivers. Apparently, it's a great spot...
