Mimi Castel Winery is located 40 kilometers southeast of the capital Kishinev. The winery was located in the state of Bessarabia. A ride of about 45 minutes and depending on the traffic loads on the way. There is free parking next to the winery. A tour can be booked in advance but is not required. At the entrance to the winery there is a hall with a display of wines for sale and souvenirs. There is a café and soft drinks at the entrance to the winery. The winery was established in 1893 by Constantine Mimi. The Russians took the winery from him and made changes and additions to the winery. Constantine Mimi was forced to flee with his family. After World War II, the winery acquired a private family and invested in a major renovation of the winery and expanded it. Some of the facilities from the period when the Russians controlled the winery are still in use today. After the massive renovation they added another wing to the winery. The railway track that was inside the winery was dismantled and a spacious garden with lawns and ornamental trees was demolished. Adjacent to the winery, a hotel and spa for special treatments are currently being built. It is possible to stay in luxurious and special suites in the winery area. There is a pool in the winery area. On the second floor of the main building at the winery there is a large restaurant with two wings. The restaurant overlooks the garden in the center of the winery area. The restaurant serves local and authentic dishes. There are starters and main courses and spectacular desserts in beauty with fine flavors. There are light and hot vomits. Of course you can order wine produced in the winery itself. The prices in the restaurant are a bit high compared to the average but quite fair and reasonable in relation to the fine and delicious food and the cordial and dedicated service of the wait staff. You can book a tour with close guidance in both the Moldavian language and the English language. The tour costs 200 Moldavian lei and lasts about an hour. The tour shows the halls in which the wine barrels are divided according to the year of production and the types of grapes from which the wine is produced. You can watch a tour of the old part of the winery from the period of Russian control of the winery. After the Russians left the winery there was an extensive renovation that lasted 4 and a half years. At the end of the tour, they sit down in a restaurant and taste three types of wines made by the winery, accompanied by an explanation from the guide. You can then purchase wines and souvenirs from the store at the entrance to the winery. In conclusion ; I highly and wholeheartedly recommend a visit and tour of the winery. In my opinion the tour is not suitable for children. This is a highly recommended experience for everyone and especially for those who love wines and are interested in...
Read moreNot impressed at all , personally I think it’s massively overpriced and over marketed . For the amount charged for entrance 350MDL if bought online and 500MDL bought at the till , they better provided unlimited still water , instead of unlimited wine at 30C outside . The event we attended Cucoanele Fiesta had nothing to do with the Mexican theme starting from decor and finishing with food and music . Poor organisation, Lack of sitting places , lack of personnel , queues everywhere. To buy food or drinks you needed first to queue for tickets. No idea what’s the point of ticketing system as it only adds up times in queues therefore complete waste of time . Food - massively overpriced, as example sweetcorn 45MDL which equals to £2.10 . No such prices even in the UK. Tacos - it’s only named tacos , instead we had tasteless mini tortilla stuffed with rice and some bits of chicken , and tiny slice of lime , no sign of grilling whatsoever, no sauces etc . I have no idea who told them this is Mexican wrap. It had nothing to do with vibrant Mexican food . And this all for the price tag 200MDL which is £9 . Again extremely expensive for what was on offer . Water sold in bottles of 700ml size only £2.10 , as we didn’t have sitting place we had to carry this bottle all the time with us and it was annoying . Apart from water , so called tacos (which was a mini version of that) , sweetcorn and polish juice Tymbark no other selection of food and drinks, at all . And all that on 3 stalls only with never ending queues . The place itself is ok , clean , looked after , clean toilets , free parking , nice green grass (which is for Moldova quite unusual to be honest ) . However don’t expect wow effect if you travelled around Europe . I tried but I saw nothing special about this place - An ordinary building with few grass zones , with a bit of long forgotten history (which they brought back to life ) as this is the only reason why smb might want to visit . I gave 3 stars only for efforts of bringing this place back to life , and some sort of outbuilding maintenance, but unfortunately this place is not worth the price tag you pay for it from all aspects . I won’t come back , and will not recommend it as there are much better wineries and places worth visiting in Moldova where you get better quality for the...
Read moreThe winery is located in a village and there is no activities to do near by so if you’re happy with just staying in the hotel then there is no worries. Castle mimi is perfect for a summer get away. There is a spacious outdoor pool with a dj and bar.
A truly unforgettable blend of history, exquisite wine, and exceptional hospitality. This isn't just a restaurant or a winery; it's an immersive journey into Moldova's rich heritage and vibrant winemaking tradition.

Beyond the wine, the culinary experience is equally impressive. The restaurant at Castel Mimi offers dishes that perfectly complement their wines, crafted with fresh, local ingredients and presented beautifully. It’s Moldovan cuisine elevated to an art form, with flavors that are both authentic and refined. The bone marrow was cooked to perfection and was bursting with flavour. All of the dishes we ordered were beautifully presented and were full of flavour.
The staff deserve immense praise. Everyone, from the tour guides to the restaurant servers, was incredibly knowledgeable, attentive, and genuinely passionate about sharing the magic of Castel Mimi. Their warmth and professionalism made the entire experience seamless and memorable.
