On certain (touristic) places €5 admittance is obligated. However this depends on luck or no luck if a ranger is present. Only at black lake a ranger is always present, all (really ALL) other parts of Durmitor rangers show up and go. So one can be obligated to pay the ticket, half an our later another one can pass without paying it because the ranger just left. Organisation with and without structure, most of all unfair. This also gives opening to rip-offs because there is no strict expectation or guideline.
Next strange thing is that 3-day tickets should be available for only €1 more than 1-day ticket, but no ranger seems to acknowledge.
Additionally the nature park isn’t really maintaned correctly, not in the sense of paths or roads but there is just trash all around, even the trash cans run over, and toilets are really dirty.
Most staff is mostly unfriendly (if you’re not native), one ranger even smelled to outside his cabine to liquir. Knowledge of English is really poor which is strange when you try to make tourists pay as much as possible for all kind of simple viewpoint, lakes, parkings, etc.
With all this in mind, the touristic places where you could be charged a ticket aren’t even that nice or exciting, but fairly boring and trashy actually…
Worst national parc concerning preservation we’ve ever been. It’s like no preservation at all but still...
Read moreVery beautiful and big national park! A lot to do.
We did a 13km hike to Crvena Greda clockwise. The first half was a very intens climb, but as soon as you're on top it is breathtaking. The second half is easy, since it's almost all downhill. We did it on sneakers, and it was doable. But I do recommend hiking boots and maybe hiking sticks. Sometimes the marks, to follow the route, were missing so this made the final climb a bit challenging. Our moving time was around 4-5 hours. So take more time if you would like to rest some (which you will probably do when your going uphill). We used the GPS with the app Komoot. This hike was a loop.
Also we did the 85 km auto loop with free audio tour in English. Not sure what the name was, but I figure you can find it with Google. Also very recommended! Takes about 4-5 hours.
You can do even more like Hiking, rafting, mountainbiken, enjoy nature, canyoning, jeep tour, car. I really recommend it to see Durmitor. Also a really clean park with...
Read moreThis park is great but confusing at first. This marker is to go to the black lake, the most popular part of the park, and where most of the trails start. From this lake, you have a few trails leaving for day hikes or backcountry backpacking. Hikes are usually pretty challenging with high incline, but are definitely worth it. There are is parking lot by the entrance park (2€/car), from there, the black lake is 5 min away.
Before going on a long hike, make sure to download an app like maps.me. Trails closer to the black lake are properly marked, but in general connections can be confusing. Some alternative trails don't exist (anymore?) making navigation by map only confusing. The only maps you'll see in the park are zoomed out maps, without any trails. The visitor center isn't helpful at helping you to figure out trails to do, so come prepared. You can get their free durmitor ring map, don't buy their paid maps, there aren't any better.
You can also find trails from the...
