This was an amazing trip. On 18 July 1995, the previously dormant Soufrière Hills volcano, in the southern part of the island, became active. Eruptions destroyed Montserrat's Georgian era capital city of Plymouth. Between 1995 and 2000, two-thirds of the island's population was forced to flee, primarily to the United Kingdom, leaving fewer than 1,200 people on the island as of 1997. The volcanic activity continues, mostly affecting the vicinity of Plymouth, including its docking facilities, and the eastern side of the island around the former W. H. Bramble Airport, the remnants of which were buried by flows from volcanic activity on 11 February 2010. We went into the Excliusion Zone to view impressive view of the...

The views from the platform with binoculars was ok, and the surrounding areas from the height were pleasant. But the video had bad narration, and a shaky camera. They should have used an English voice for the interpretation. The speech was not clear and consise. Better videos to be seen online. Not worth to pay to watch this video. Better to just come and see views from the building, and watch YouTube,...

Small place with a nice view and exhibits about the eruption and the actual conditions on the island, is a great stop while doing the guided tour of Montserrat, we did the ferry tour that included a lunch and island tour, our guide was a police officer during the time of the eruption so he had all kinds of info and points of view of the tragedy that ensued during the event... Sad but beautiful views

A site to behold. This is a place of education and learning how the peoples lives of the island of Montserrat were forever changed. The road to the observatory is a slight challenge to navigate but it is well worth it. Make a purchase of a book or two to help fund the observatory as you will get a better understanding of again how the volcano changed the island and its people.

We did a day tour here with D & J Forwarders. Winston was our guide and gave us a very thorough tour of the island. The destruction caused by the volcano and the beautiful plants that are thriving were all covered. The observatory has the best views on the island and the video about the devastating eruptions was very interesting.
