The Fort of São Sebastião lies at the northern end of Stone Town on the Island of Mozambique. It is the oldest complete fort still standing in sub-Saharan Africa. Construction by the Portuguese began in 1558, and it took about fifty years to complete.

Really interesting and huge fortress. Unfortunately no authentic interiors left (part of it is in the museum). The fortress is victim of the tooth of time and thus you'll find a lot of vegetation, which has it's very own charm. Don't expect too many information from the tour guides but still they provide interesting facts.
