A Life-Changing Adventure with Namibia’s Majestic Desert Elephants
From the moment we set foot on the sandy terrain of Namibia, my dad and I knew we were in for an unforgettable adventure. Our shared passion for conservation and the desire to learn about the desert elephants led us to this extraordinary safari. What set it apart was the incredible bond we formed with our guide, who showered us with undivided attention, sharing a wealth of knowledge and his incredible experiences working with these wild animals. It felt like we were learning from a true master, and by the end of our journey, we had not only gained a deep appreciation for these magnificent creatures, but also a cherished friendship.
One of the most striking aspects of this safari was the unwavering respect and consideration shown towards the animals and their habitats. Every step of the way, our guides emphasized the importance of non-invasive approaches and the welfare of the animals took precedence above all else. Witnessing this level of care and commitment was truly heartwarming, and it instilled in us a newfound sense of responsibility towards wildlife preservation.
Our six safaris were nothing short of awe-inspiring. We were granted the privilege of witnessing the sheer majesty and resilience of the desert elephants in their natural environment. Alongside these gentle giants, we encountered an abundance of wildlife, each with its own unique behaviors and characteristics. From playful ostriches and their adorable babies to the graceful giraffes and mischievous baboons, every encounter was a lesson in itself.
The safari went beyond the wildlife, giving us a profound understanding of the intricate web of life in this arid landscape. We learned to identify various trees and their symbiotic relationships with the wildlife, a knowledge that deepened our appreciation for the delicate balance of nature. Navigating through dry riverbeds, dunes, and prairies was exhilarating, yet at no point did we feel unsafe, even when we stood at arm’s length from a herd of elephants. By the end, my dad and I could differentiate between individual elephants and even estimate their ages through cues like tusk size and foot circumference. Throughout our journey, our safety and well-being were the top priorities, and the care we received was beyond exceptional.
Our adventure extended beyond the wilderness, as we had the privilege of immersing ourselves in the local tribes’ way of life. The connection between the safari and the community was unexpected and heartwarming. Witnessing the support provided to the local boarding school and tribes was a testament to the positive impact of responsible tourism. Additionally, the visit to the ancient engravings of Twyfelfontein offered a mesmerizing glimpse into the history and evolution of generations past. To Granville, Charles, and Vincent, we extend our deepest gratitude for this life-changing experience. We can’t wait to return and continue this incredible journey of discovery and conservation.

The campsite -
Spacious, peaceful and excellent ablution facilities (I’m not sure why but toilets and bathrooms seem to be referred to as ablutions here, maybe it’s a German thing!😂). Toilets and showers were clean and and plentiful. There was hot water and lovely powerful showers.
Star (our tour guide) and the staff were extremely friendly and eager to help. We were even each given walkie-talkies so we could talk to the overnight security guard overnight in case of any issues. The guard also calls in to the campsites each evening to make sure everyone is ok.
The tour -
Star was our tour guide on our trip and was excellent. We were first made aware of the company by some friends who had done just the drive with them in December 2022 and were extremely impressed. We went on a morning drive and Star was great at talking us through the behaviour of dessert elephants and how he was going to go about tracking them down. It was hard work and it took a couple hours but he searched tirelessly until we found them. These are wild creatures in their habit so you have to be comfortable that some days it might not work out but that’s just the way safaris go. Nonetheless Star was amazing and the experience with the elephants was awe inspiring.

Elephant-Drive: We decided to go on an elephant drive with Charles. He told us a lot of things about the animals, plants and tracks you can find in the area you drive through. As soon as we found the elephants he told us a lot about his „extended family“. It doesn‘t matter what you want to know he knows everything about the elephants and can authentically transport his fascination!
We had a great time there. Thanks for...
