Best place to hiking around kathmandu valley . Fabulous and intriguing natural beauty. One day hiking schedule from sundarijal to chisapani .It is also popular as Jamacho Monastery Hiking. It is enclosed by a thick forest inside the Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park. It takes about two and half hours of walking up to the hill. Jamacho Gumba lies at the top of the hill, which is a sacred Buddhist pilgrimage place. It is a short and easy hiking, but offers splendid experiences.

Jamacho view point (2128m) offers the best views of northern Himalayan ranges and the best view of the Kathmandu Valley from the viewpoint beside the monastery. The Everest and Langtang Himalayan ranges are dazzling from here. Another rich aspect of hiking in Nagarjun is flora and fauna. According to the data of National park the vegetation consists of a diverse plant species including pine, oak, rhododendron and others. The park has sheltered several species of mammals like Himalayan black bear, leopard, jungle cats, and Rhesus monkey. There is also a historical palace called Nagarjun Durbar owned by former royal families.

During the day hike to Nagarjun, one can feel peace state of mind with natural setting and its the best place to meditate. Hikers meet several Buddhist monks paying their homage at the monastery. Entrance permission is needed to hike around the park, which can be bought at the entrance gate.

Trip Highlights of 1 Day Nagarjun Hiking that we had followed

The top of Nagarjun is a best viewpoint of the Kathmandu Valley. Jamacho Gumba as a sacred Buddhist monastery. Explore the flora and fauna of Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park. Best views of northern Himalayan range from the view tower. Located at closer distance from central Kathmandu. Staying in chisapani is recommended if you are not acquaint to walking in hilly terrain.Early morning you could go to nagarkot which is around 20 km from chisapani . Better to have you umbrella or raincoat while hiking because month of may to august it rain often in this region. Please carry water bottle and some snacks along the way....

Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park (total area 159 sq km) is situated on the northern fringe of the Kathmandu valley and lies about 12 km away from the center of the capital city. This is a wonderful place to visit, offering a refreshing escape into nature just outside Kathmandu. The park is full of lush greenery, scenic trails, and a diverse range of wildlife. Hiking here is a great experience, with well-marked paths that lead to beautiful viewpoints and tranquil spots. One important thing to be mindful of is the presence of snakes. While they are generally not aggressive and tend to avoid humans, it's important to stay alert, especially when walking through dense vegetation or along less-traveled paths. Wearing sturdy shoes and keeping an eye on where you step can help ensure a safe and enjoyable visit. Additionally, this national park is under the surveillance of the Nepalese army. Visitors are expected to keep the park clean, and it is important not to throw water bottles or wrappers inside the park. Littering can result in penalties, including being asked to clean up the park by the army. Upon entering the park, you must fill out a self-declaration form at the ticket counter. This form will be attached to your ticket in which you must declare the number of water bottles, noodles, cold drinks, etc., which you are carrying. If the army checks your ticket and finds wrappers or water bottles missing you may be asked to clean the park as punishment. During my visit, I encountered six groups of army. Five of these groups were very humble, but one group was quite rude. In case of an emergency, you can call on the hotline number provided on your ticket. Overall, Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park is a must-visit place for nature lovers looking to experience the beauty of Nepal.

Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park is a natural heaven considering the present day chaotic and polluted Kathmandu city below it, once we get anywhere near the National Park the chaos and pollution disappears opening a whole different and promising oasis of nature. The National Park is having some sites of Historical and Religious importance and is the source of the major rivers of the Kathmandu such as Bagmati and Bisnumati among many. The conservation work done in the National park is remarkable and the Ancient forest is well preserved. The National park starts at an average altitude of 1700 metres and ends up at the peak point of almost 2800 metres from the sea level. The Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park covers almost all the North and North Eastern side along with the recently added Nagarjuna Mountains of the North western Kathmandu. It is also having a record of being the only nearest national Park to any International Airport as it is less than 10 kms from the nearby Tribhuvan International Airport and can be reached via several different access roads. The Shivapuri range and the holy sites within it are a must visit site and a World lost in its own peaceful solitude. It offers a diversity of Flora and Fauna and some indigenous villages at the lower regions keeping alive the Traditional culture and lives of these indigenous groups of Nepal. Although it seems so near to a big city and everything but one has to be careful while hiking or trekking or just even a short visit for a picnic or outing because there could be a lot of wild animals who don't want to be disturbed.
