Temple of Barahi How to reach here via a public transport: Take a bus of Chapagaun from Lagankhel bus park.

(Information from the internet) Myth: According to the legends, the temple was established in the month of Chaitra in 784 BS by Shrinewas Malla and it is said that the place, where the temple stands today, was a pond in the middle of the forest back then. It is believed that the goddess Bajrabarahi incarnated from the pond and hence, a temple was established in its place later. The temple not only has the image of the goddess but also the statue of Nawadevta on its left and right sides, along with the statue of Lord Shiva. Also, the temple does not have a gajur (pinnacle), which is quite uncommon for the temples in Nepal, especially Kathmandu. It is said that the gajur was made in Patan and the night before it was to be put, the priest of the temple saw a nightmare where he dreamt that anyone who would try to put the gajur in the temple would die of heat injury. Hence, the idea of putting up a pinnacle on the top of the temple was dropped and the temple remained without it.

Environmental value: The temple is situated amidst a beautiful place which still has the untouched beauty of the nature that is quite difficult to find in the hectic and busy areas of Kathmandu.

The temple is surrounded by a huge forest which is famous for bird watching as a wide variety of birds and around 166 varieties of flora including rare orchids could be found here. Among the forty-eight different varieties of birds, some of them are parrots, Bengal green pigeon, black drongo, blue-throated barbet, crested...

As soon as you enter the entrance gate you can feel the spiritual vibes surrounding you with the cluster of dense trees and rocky pavemt leading you to the main premise of the Bajrabarahi temple. The temple itself is located at the beautiful place inbetween the dense forest. But what worse going on here is the lack of management along with the devotees and picnic goers. From my personal experience, I got to witness the devotees having party in the temple premise with the loud western music going on which I found personally very annoying and ruining the culture and environment of the temple area and even the person responsible for taking care of temple area was okay with it. Similarly, the picnic spot is the best one that you can find in Kathmandu but due to the lack of self awareness, picnic goers are polluting the picnic spot by simply scattering the litters behind and playing out loud music. What we need to know is, it's a temple premise with the jungle having wild animals and birds residing there. Therefore,I request all the visitors to be self aware about such things and let's contribute from our own side. If we can't clean then atleast lets not make it dirty too. Save culture & the premise of...

The Bajra Barahi Temple is located approximately eight kilometers south of Patan and is a 30-minute journey from the city. The temple, which is located at the intersection of three Newar settlements-Thecho, Chapagaun, and Jharuwarasi-is famous for its social, cultural, and religious significance. Shree Niwas Malla built the Bajra Barahi Temple, one of Nepal's four most prominent Barahi temples, in 748 BS. The temple, decorated with antique 17th-century paintings, is dedicated to the tantric forms of Goddess Kali. The temple is brilliantly built in the pagoda style, but it lacks the most crucial component of its architecture, the gajur, about which there are various rumors. The temple has sculptures, wall inscriptions, and struts inlaid with representations of female gods. Two sculptures of white tigers, the vehicles of Goddess Kali, stand watch over the main shrine, one on each side of the entryway. Every time their livestock give birth to calves, devotees present milk, ghee, curd, and maize flour to the statue of a bull, which represents Lord Shiva's vehicle, which stands in front of the main temple.
