My one-day hike to Bethanchowk was an absolute delight, offering the perfect blend of adventure and natural beauty. Located just a short drive from the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu, this serene hill station provided an unforgettable experience of witnessing both sunrise and sunset in all their glory.
Google Maps was instrumental in guiding me to the starting point of the trail, ensuring a smooth journey right from the beginning. The trail itself was well-maintained and offered stunning panoramic views of the surrounding valleys and distant Himalayan peaks. As the sun rose over the horizon, painting the sky in hues of pink and orange, I couldn't help but feel a profound sense of peace and awe.
Throughout the day, I explored the lush forests and quaint villages dotting the landscape, soaking in the sights and sounds of rural Nepal. Google's reviews and photos helped me choose a cozy spot for lunch where I savored delicious local cuisine and chatted with friendly locals who shared stories of their life in the mountains.
As evening approached, I found the perfect vantage point to witness the sunsetтАФa breathtaking spectacle as the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a golden glow over the hills. It was a moment of pure serenity and gratitude, made possible by the convenience and reliability of Google's information.

┬а┬а┬аRead moreTwo years ago, in Chisapani, we encountered a group of fellow hikers during our lunch break. Our conversation revolved around the various hikes we had taken in Kathmandu Valley and nearby areas. Bethanchowk stood out among them, and everyone emphasized the importance of exploring it before the trail succumbs to damage from the nearby roadway. We initially planned to hike from the lowest elevation, but we opted for some off-road adventure instead. It proved to be challenging as our bike couldn't accommodate two people, leading to one person running while the other rode. The uphill path was exceptionally steep, with stones scattered all around as a makeshift surface. Unfortunately, my friends ended up breaking their bike chassis when it struck a ricocheting stone. The experience at Bethanchowk is truly delightful, featuring trails that simultaneously ascend and descend. The scenic views are breathtaking, provided the weather isn't obscured by fog. It took us an hour to reach the temple from the farthest point accessible by bike. Near the summit, we discovered a cave where we ventured about 30 feet inside and there was still a narrow path which will go on and on.. There, a narrow path supposedly holds significance in fable (kimbadanti), as it is said to be where the Pandavas hid their weapons during the Mahabharata battle. Despite hearing that the Janakpur Railway is visible on clear days, we weren't fortunate enough...

Located at an altitude of 3000m from the sea level, it boasts different views of the hills and Himalayan ranges. Some places of Makwanpur and Janakpur can also be seen from Bethanchowk. Hilltops in Nepal are one of the best place for sightseeing in Nepal many offering views of Tibetan peaks on the North and Indian plains in the south. Bethanhowk is one of them.
Actually, this whole mountain is called Bethanchowk Narayanthan, named after the small temple, Narayanthan, enshrined at the hilltop. Narayanthan is crowded with devotees during the Fagu Purnima every year. The peak is usually known as Narayanthan rather than Bethanchowk. People also refer it as the King of the Hills. The suitable month for visit is Mangsir according to the villagers.
How to get there? According to the locals of Kavre, there are several trails to reach Narayanthan, one from Dhungkharka, one from Kavre and another one from Makwanpur. We went from Dhulikhel. Dhungkharka is about 25 kms away from Dhulikhel and 55 kms from Kathmandu. From Dhungkharka, it takes about 5-6 hours of uphill hike to reach the top of...
