Trek Visit Review: Jamacho Gumba, Nagarjun

Overview Jamacho Gumba, nestled in the lush Nagarjun Forest Reserve, offers a serene and invigorating trek for nature lovers and spiritual seekers alike. Situated just a few kilometers from Kathmandu, this hidden gem provides a refreshing escape from the bustling city life, combining scenic beauty, wildlife encounters, and spiritual tranquility.

Trek Experience The trek to Jamacho Gumba starts from the entrance of Nagarjun Forest Reserve, which is easily accessible by a short drive from Kathmandu. The entry fee is reasonable, and the trail is well-marked, making it suitable for both beginners and experienced hikers. The path winds through dense forests, rich with diverse flora and fauna. As you ascend, the air becomes fresher, and the sounds of the city fade away, replaced by bird songs and rustling leaves.

Trail Highlights One of the main highlights of this trek is the panoramic view of the Kathmandu Valley and the distant Himalayan ranges, visible from various points along the trail. The trek is moderately challenging, with a steady incline that rewards you with increasingly breathtaking vistas as you climb higher. Several resting spots along the way offer perfect opportunities to take in the views and capture stunning photographs.

Reaching Jamacho Gumba Upon reaching the top, the sight of Jamacho Gumba, a beautiful Buddhist monastery, is truly rewarding. The monastery itself is a peaceful haven, adorned with colorful prayer flags fluttering in the wind. The serene atmosphere is ideal for meditation or quiet contemplation. Monks and local devotees often visit the monastery, adding to its spiritual ambiance.

Wildlife and Flora The Nagarjun Forest Reserve is home to various wildlife, including monkeys, deer, and a variety of bird species. The rich biodiversity of the forest enhances the trekking experience, making it not just a physical journey but also a delightful encounter with nature.

Practical Tips Timing: The best time to visit is during the spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November) seasons when the weather is pleasant, and the skies are clear. Preparation: Wear comfortable hiking shoes and carry sufficient water and snacks. A light jacket is advisable as it can get chilly at higher altitudes. Guides: While the trail is easy to navigate, hiring a local guide can enrich your experience with insights into the flora, fauna, and local culture.

Conclusion The trek to Jamacho Gumba is a perfect blend of natural beauty, moderate physical challenge, and spiritual fulfillment. Whether you are a seasoned trekker or a casual visitor looking for a day trip, this trek offers a refreshing and enriching experience. The combination of scenic views, wildlife, and the tranquil monastery makes it a must-visit destination for anyone in the...

Nearest place for a day hike, Jamacho Gumba⛩ lies at the top of Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park which took us about 4hrs to ascend 🚶‍♀️and 3 hrs to descend 🏃‍♀️. We took 9.4 KM trail - an adventurous way to hike towards the hill. With steep hills and almost 90° inclined ladder with no support at all you will start crawling using hands and legs. Hence, it is highly recommended to get a walking pole with you. Since, We went an a hike during March, the best thing about it was we were able to see Rhododendrons 🥰. After a tiring uphill hike indeed it was such a good treat, to go up to the very top for a bit of a fresh air, and views of Kathmandu valley. (Sad part is we weren't able to see great view as valley look insanely polluted☹️☹️). In short, it is a great trail for bit of a fresh air and get rid of our boring city life 🤘🤘. Things you need to know: 1. You need to pay entry fees at the gate of Shivapuri National Park. You must pay for a guide, the army fee and a conservation fee. 2. National Park entry fee for Nepalese and foreign are different. 3. You can go either by private vehicle(About 17KM Road ) or by foot (Step way Vertical 2hr time average but it take 4 hrs for us.) 4. Guide is a most if you are going to the top by foot. 5. Carry water and snacks for this hike as there is no any shops on the way. You can buy water and junk food at the top near stupa. 6. Keep nature clean and dispose the waste properly or carry them back home. #jamachogumba #hike #hikingadventure #natureshot #traveldiaries
