Amazing Kailashnath Mahadev Statue is the world's tallest Shiva statue. The statue is (144 ft/ 44 m) in height, and was made using copper, zinc, concrete and steel. The name Kailashnath means “Master of Mount Kailash,” while Mahadev means “great god.” Mount Kailash, Shiva’s traditional home, is a 21,800-foot tall mountain in the Tibet Autonomous Region of China near the northwest corner of Nepal. It sits near the headwaters of the Indus, Brahmaputra, and Karnali rivers. To help visitors and votaries reach Shiva’s mount, a new 738-foot pedestrian suspension bridge was recently constructed over the busy Araniko Highway. The views of the Himalayas and Kathmandu Valley from the bridge are alone worth the hike up to the statue. Kailashnath Mahadev can be viewed 24 hours a day, but access to the grounds is limited to 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The statue is also part of a large resort run by the Hilltake company. Accompanied by his telltale trident representing Shiva’s three functions as creator, preserver, and destroyer, as well as a damaru (drum), which he uses in his dance, Shiva is also garlanded by the serpent Vasuki, who represents power and fearlessness. The Kailashnath Mahadev Statue is very popular with Hindus both from Nepal and India. Though numbers of 5,000 to 10,000 visitors per week are highly suspect weekends do see an influx of visitors. Due to the number of visitors the statue has contributed to religious tourism in Nepal, both locally and internationally, raised the economic activity of the local community, and has made an impact on the development of nearby villages.

Visiting the Kailashnath Mahadev Statue in Sanga, Nepal was an awe-inspiring experience. As one of the tallest Lord Shiva statues in the world, it stands majestically at 143 feet, overlooking the beautiful hills between Kathmandu and Bhaktapur. The sheer size and craftsmanship of the statue are truly breathtaking—it's a powerful spiritual landmark that leaves a lasting impression. The atmosphere around the statue is peaceful and serene, making it a perfect place for meditation and reflection. The surrounding gardens are well-maintained, and the gentle sound of temple bells and mantras adds to the divine ambiance. As I walked around, I felt a strong sense of calm and connection to nature and spirituality. The view from the hilltop is also stunning, offering panoramic scenes of the valley below. The facilities were well-organized, with clean pathways, helpful signage, and local shops offering souvenirs and snacks. I also appreciated the small temples and shrines around the main statue, which added to the sacred feel of the site. Locals and visitors alike seemed to share a common reverence and respect for the place, which created a warm and welcoming environment. Overall, the Kailashnath Mahadev Statue is not just a monument—it's a spiritual destination worth visiting. Whether you're a devotee of Lord Shiva or simply a traveler seeking beauty and peace, this site offers both. I highly recommend making it a part of your journey when exploring Nepal!

Standing at an impressive height of 144 feet, this statue holds the title of the tallest statue of Lord Shiva in the world. It is located in Bharkatpur, a tranquil area in Nepal, approximately a two-hour drive from the bustling city of Kathmandu. The picturesque surroundings provide a perfect backdrop for reflection and appreciation of the statue. The area is well-maintained, adding to its charm and inviting atmosphere. Nearby, visitors can find a shop that sells snacks and various local artifacts, allowing for a complete experience of the site. Be sure to bring local currency, as there is an entrance fee. During my visit, I decided to drive myself. However, I learned a valuable lesson about planning ahead: always check your route on Google Maps before departing. I mistakenly took a more rugged mountain route, which led to some frustration due to the narrow and challenging roads. In the future, I would recommend sticking to the main roads for a smoother and more enjoyable journey to this incredible monument.

COMPLETED IN 2011 AFTER SEVEN years of construction, this 144-foot tall statue presenting the hand gesture (or mudra) offering blessings of peace stands approximately 12 miles east of Kathmandu. Nearly as tall as the Statue of Liberty (151 feet). It’s also the second tallest Hindu deity in the world.

Accompanied by his telltale trident representing Shiva’s three functions as creator, preserver, and destroyer, as well as a damaru (drum), which he uses in his dance, Shiva is also garlanded by the serpent Vasuki, who represents power and fearlessness.

Next to Shiva is Nandi, the bull that represents one of Shiva’s alter egos Pashupati, or “Lord of Cattle.” Surrounding the statue in the temple complex are 12 Shiva lingams, which represent Shiva’s role as a creator and god of fertility.
