Museummolen Blokweer at the UNESCO World Heritage site of Kinderdijk is a notable destination. This windmill has a significant history—it was originally constructed in 1630 and unfortunately burnt down in 1997. It has since been carefully rebuilt, providing visitors with a balanced mix of historical and restored elements.
Admission to Blokweer is included with the Kinderdijk site ticket, making it convenient for visitors. Inside the windmill, you can explore how millers and their families traditionally lived. The interior features period furnishings and tools, offering a clear representation of historical daily life.
The staff at the site are informative and approachable, enhancing the experience with their knowledge. Additionally, interactive displays and educational diagrams help explain the windmill’s engineering and functionality, making it accessible for visitors of all ages.
The surrounding area, with its network of canals and additional 18 windmills, creates a visually appealing and educational environment. Whether interested in history, engineering, or cultural studies, Museummolen Blokweer and Kinderdijk offer a valuable visit. Highly recommended for those looking to explore...

But here, at Museummolen Blokweer we experienced something I still cannot believe: We have tried to visit this windmill. But sadly, this wasn't possible without buying a whole package together with a movie show and a ship cruise. UNESCO Sites are what they are and I am grateful for them. When you're at Horyu-ji Temple, looking at the oldest wooden building in the world, you just can't describe that kind of feeling. If you can see and experience even a few in your lifetime, in person, you'll be far better off for it. These need to...
