Museummolen Blokweer at the UNESCO World Heritage site of Kinderdijk is a notable destination. This windmill has a significant history—it was originally constructed in 1630 and unfortunately burnt down in 1997. It has since been carefully rebuilt, providing visitors with a balanced mix of historical and restored elements. Admission to Blokweer is included with the Kinderdijk site ticket, making it convenient for visitors. Inside the windmill, you can explore how millers and their families traditionally lived. The interior features period furnishings and tools, offering a clear representation of historical daily life. The staff at the site are informative and approachable, enhancing the experience with their knowledge. Additionally, interactive displays and educational diagrams help explain the windmill’s engineering and functionality, making it accessible for visitors of all ages. The surrounding area, with its network of canals and additional 18 windmills, creates a visually appealing and educational environment. Whether interested in history, engineering, or cultural studies, Museummolen Blokweer and Kinderdijk offer a valuable visit. Highly recommended for those looking to explore Dutch heritage.

A well preserved mill that dates back to 1630. It’s a unesco world heritage site. Enjoyed the walk to the 2 mills. Kids absolutely loved it. On winter days won’t recommend staying late in the area if you don’t have a car because it’s quite difficult to get a cab. There is public transport (bus) just around the corner which you can consider taking.

Why so rude to us 😢 We two were checking the only signage around the windmill - “please scan ticket” outside the hut under the windmill, a staff went out at that time and asked us about ticket, we said no then were ordered rudely to leave that area :( Suggest them to make clear signage to show their border that needs enter with a ticket

A beautiful scenery here at Kinderdijk!

But here, at Museummolen Blokweer we experienced something I still cannot believe: We have tried to visit this windmill. But sadly, this wasn't possible without buying a whole package together with a movie show and a ship cruise. The lady I asked, was very unfriendly and impatient - even though there were - at this time - no other people waiting for her. So, we decided not to go inside but to take some pictures from the outside without passing the fence surrounding the mill. She came up to us - even more unfriendly than before - and chased us away from where we were since we didn’t have a ticket.

This was by far the most annoying experience we had on our whole trip! That's why I can only give a one-star rating - we didn't see the mill and were "removed from the location".

Even though if there really is no option to visit only this mill without all the other stuff, she could have told us in a way...

I was very fortunate to meet one of the millers during my visit. He was a treasure trove of information. I had no idea all the windmills (aside from the museum pieces) are occupied. ( I didn't take the guided tour) They have rules to abide by, but the fact that they all are functional, and are required to run for certain periods, is just remarkable. What's more to say? UNESCO Sites are what they are and I am grateful for them. When you're at Horyu-ji Temple, looking at the oldest wooden building in the world, you just can't describe that kind of feeling. If you can see and experience even a few in your lifetime, in person, you'll be far better off for it. These need to...
