Rhoonse Grienden — Attraction in Albrandswaard

Before going here I didn't even know this area. De Rhoonse Grienden is a beautiful nature reserve and perfect for long and short hikes or runs. There is plenty of parking (next to the Tasman restaurant) and several signed routes are available. Along the trails you'll find some really nice spots for a break or picnic.

A long time ago they harvested willow twigs and branches. Tough work as there were no roads and twice a day the tide would flood part of this area (just like today, but now you are on elevated walkways). Today they still do this with volunteers to maintain the willow forest. Don't forget to take a look into one of the many hollow willow trees to spot nature and animals hidden within those trees.

The Rhoonse Grienden is a unique freshwater tidal area located along the Oude Maas. The area is influenced by ebb and flow, with large parts of it underwater twice a day. De Rhoonse grienden is een apart natuurgebied. Het staat vol met wilgen die nog echt geoogst worden. Het is er prachtig wandelen ook al is het eigenlijk geen bos maar een plantage. Eerst het stuk over de dijk met prachtige vergezichten en dan kris kras terug over de paadjes en bruggetjes. Af en toe het geluid van een rivierboot die voorbij komt, maar dat draagt alleen maar bij aan de sfeer. Ook al omdat je de boot niet kan zien. Het zit er vol met bevers en als je oplet kun je hier en daar een burcht herkennen. Ook zijn er heel veel reeën, die zich van fietsers niet veel aantrekken. Eigenlijk is er in ieder seizoen wel iets te beleven. Momenteel wordt er veel geoogst, maar over een tijdje komen de verse takken weer. Wilgen groeien nou eenmaal snel en zeker daar. Het is een gebied dat nog onder de invloed is van eb en vloed, en daarom gedijen die bomen daar zo goed. Zorg wel voor goede schoenen, want het kan er modderig en...
