Read moreWas very excited to come and see the tide pools however when we arrived at the park office to pay admission, we learned that the park would not allow driving over to the tide pool area unless you have a jeep. They also no longer allow UTVs in the park either. So that was disappointing to our family as we would have just paid to do a tour had we known that since it was already $40/adult and kids are free so we had to pay $80 for the afternoon.
We did drive through the whole park, where we could and did see beautiful coast lines and beach areas. The volcanic lava formations at the ocean were amazing to see. Also the nesting beach was beautiful as well. The caves were very cool to see but wish we would have taken advantage of the rangers that were there to tour them…we didn’t have cash for a tip so we felt bad asking them to. Goats at the end were surprising too because they were so adorable, all wandering on the open land next to the wind turbines. We later read that the locals may not like they as much as we did because they are destroying the land by eating the greenery.
But overall it was a very hot afternoon that left us a bit disappointed since we were not fully aware or prepared. Hopefully this helps other be more prepared on your visit.
Final words: if you don’t have a jeep while on island then instead pay for a jeep tour through the park so you can see it all and enjoy the park to...

The park's sweeping mountain vistas and dramatic geological formations create a truly awe-inspiring atmosphere, making the price of admission well worth it. At the heart of the experience are the two impressive caves, where guided tours provide a fascinating glimpse into the ancient history and culture of the region's indigenous inhabitants. The cave artwork and geological features on display are simply mesmerizing.
However, it's important to note that some areas of the park are only accessible with a 4x4 vehicle, including the renowned natural pool. While this may pose a challenge for some visitors, it also adds to the sense of exploration and discovery that makes Arikok National Park so captivating.
The roads within the park can be a bit rough in places, especially for smaller vehicles, but navigating them is entirely doable with caution and care. The payoff for this minor inconvenience is the feeling of being transported to another world, where the harsh yet beautiful desert landscape...
