Gaatkensbult — Attraction in Barendrecht

Amazing viewspot. A shame that the mirror at the top is in bad condition, but still looks amazing. The views are spectacular and there is an artistic bench to sit down and enjoy the peace at the place. You can watch the merchant ships cruising the Oude Maas, the Rotterdam’s skyscrapers in the distance and the surrounding park.

Mooi stuk natuur van grasweilanden en loofbomen gelegen langs de Maas waar je heerlijk met je hond kan wandelen. Vreemd is wel dat als je recht voor de Maasheuvel staat, gezien vanaf de trap dat je rechts je hond los mag laten lopen maar links van de heuvel moet hij aangelijnd zijn. Op De Maasheuvel staat een spiegel, dit is een kunstwerk genaamd ‘Sky, Moon, Mirror, Environment’ uit 2006 en is ontworpen door planoloog Arno van der Mark . Deze spiegel was eerst hol maar omdat er mensen brandgaten in hun kleding opliepen bij een zonnige dag is hij nu bol gemaakt. Vanaf de heuvel kan je een groot gedeelte van Barendrecht zien en een deel van de skyline van Rotterdam. 180 graden de andere kant op heb je een mooi uitzicht op de Maas en de schepen die daar varen.
